“Lest we forget” is a phrase commonly used at war remembrance services. It encourages not to forget tragic battles fought in the past, why/how those battles came about, and the men and women who fought those battles. “Lest we forget” refers to the need of remembering history–studying and understanding national situations surrounding war and peace so that we avoid war and live in peace.
America, lest we forget God, what will happen?
This post concludes a nine part series on Dr. Marshall Foster’s book, The American Covenant – The Untold Story, available at book stores or on his good friend Kirk Cameron’s web page. Dr. Foster, who passed this year, had a special love for learning and sharing the true history of the United States. His passion leads to creating paths for Americans to better understand the Christian foundation our Founding Fathers built this country upon. That knowledgeable passion is shared in his book:

America’s original covenant with God, The Mayflower Compact, is historic and of vital importance to the origins of our country. When keeping our word with God we are assured God keeps His Word with us – we receive blessings.
Within the bowels of the Mayflower ship the Mayflower Compact was composed; our first covenant made with God before the Pilgrims stepped onto the land of their new home. It acknowledges God’s providence.
Many state charters, constitutions, the Declaration of the Causes and Necessity of Taking Up Arms, speeches by elected officials–Presidents–and many acts of Congress through the years have also acknowledged God’s providence in America.
Dr. Foster’s book describes many of America’s God-founded documents.
However, if America chooses to forget our Christian foundation, our documented covenants with God, God may at some time choose to forget us. If we truly want to remember our Christian foundation it is up to Christian parents to teach their children, just as God commanded us to do.
Psalm 78:5-8 He decreed statutes for Jacob and established the law in Israel, which he commanded our ancestors to teach their children, so the next generation would know them, even the children yet to be born, and they in turn would tell their children. Then they would put their trust in God and would not forget his deeds but would keep his commands. They would not be like their ancestors— a stubborn and rebellious generation, whose hearts were not loyal to God, whose spirits were not faithful to him.
History, when properly studied, reveals God’s influence upon our Founders.
“A study of the authentic documents of our Colonial ancestors reveals consistent references to their faith in the Providential hand of God in the founding of their nation. Yes in the vast majority of modern textbooks, this central truth goes unacknowledged. This omission has had a profound impact upon the American republic and its youth.”
Dr. Marshall Foster
Today, however, is not the only time spiritual apathy has existed in America. The market collapse in London in 1720 caused both England and emerging America to suffer. Thankfully, preachers George Whitefield and Jonathan Edwards felt compelled to start a revival traveling about and sharing the Gospel. They were successful. Americans were revived in believing and acknowledging God’s sovereignty and thus the First Great Awakening occurred.
The Second Great Awakening happened in 1857. It started with a pastor and six men praying for revival in Manhattan and short months later grew to ten thousand men gathering in Broadway’s theaters at lunch time for two-hours of prayer. This second revival continued through the Civil war when pastors both north and south entered camps and prayed, bringing thousands of soldiers to Christ.
Lest we forget, America’s Christian history is faithfully recalled in The American Covenant – The Untold Story.
Christian revival can again bring forth blessings to us from above. It’s not too late. Until our last breath it is not too late to revive our nation. Dr. Foster, through his book, continues to share God’s glory on America and ends the reading with a “Peaceful Restoration” for America:
“Fast-forward to our day. Democratic socialism has failed. The god of the secular State cannot be our provider anymore. It has, as Margaret Thatcher put it, “Run out of other people’s money.” But Christ’s Army of Compassion, His Church, armed with HIs love for the spiritual and physical needs of men and nations, is awakening once again in America. And Americans have the advantage of having a constitutional republic that by its very words and structure demands the decentralization of power away from the national government and down to the “states and people thereof.” (See the Tenth Amendment to the Constitution.)
Do you have a few friends in your community who would gather, pray, and believe God to reach your community with the Gospel, to restore private welfare for the truly needy, and to educate the people once again in God’s ways of living? It is beginning to happen in communities throughout the land.
The peaceful restoration of our nation lies before us. Kirk Cameron, in his movie Monumental, explains where the reformation of America must begin. He says the reformation of America “‘begins at your house, not the White House.'” We must vote wisely for the most Biblically sound candidates, and it may require that we ourselves run for office. But we must never lose sight of our role. We are the light of the world, the salt of the earth. We know that private Christian charity (love) can save our bankrupt civil institutions. If then, why not now?”
The American Covenant – The Untold Story
Thank-you, Marshall Foster, for this insightful look at America’s untold story; the real history of God in America’s foundation. May more and more Christians gather together virtually around campfires across our great land with Kirk Cameron or on their own, and come together in prayer for another Great Awakening, a revival, that citizens may repent in hope of coming to know Christ.

Thank you for reading. You are right, humble, like our Forefathers and Founders. They read scripture, followed God’s instructions for self-government, received His blessings.
