I admire this nation formed by God. I respect the brave men and women, motivated by God, who fought to establish this country. The precise structure and composing of our Declaration of Independence was hard fought along with our Constitution which affords us liberty and personal rights. How wonderful to be born in a country with these freedoms. May God bless America.
When independence was declared from Great Britain on July 4, 1776, God birthed a new nation. To His glory this new nation was fully aware of their Creator.
”We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.” — The Declaration of Independence.
Of the 56 men who signed this founding document, nearly half (24) held seminary or Bible school degrees. Clearly their instilled Christian faith affected these Founding Fathers as they referenced God in historical documents.
It’s a blessing to America many Founding Fathers spoke reverently of God, including our first president:
“It is the duty of all nations to acknowledge the providence of Almighty God, to obey His will, to be grateful for His benefits, and humbly to implore His protection and favor.” President George Washington
As Congress began making laws and decisions regarding America, they also highly respected God’s Word. In 1782 Congress took action and approved the printing of Bibles to be used in schools :
“The Congress of the United States recommends and approves the Holy Bible for use in all schools.” United States Congress
Then our government began turning its back to God.
Though our highest court was praising the necessity of Christ:
“I verily believe Christianity necessary to the support of civil society. One of the beautiful boasts of our municipal jurisprudence is that Christianity is a part of the Common Law … There never has been a period in which the Common Law did not recognize Christianity as lying its foundations.” Supreme Court Justice Joseph Story, Harvard Speech, 1829
Respect for God’s providence by Congress did not last long:
Approximately 75 years after Bibles were ordered and printed for public schools, Charles Darwin published his evolutionary theory. Battles popped up over teaching evolution in schools. Prayer in school was also attacked. On June 25, 1962 our United States Supreme Court sided with a group of parents lead by Jewish New Yorker Steven Engel and took prayer out of schools. One short year later The Court banned reading the Bible in public schools altogether.
The Court also turned its back on unborn babies on January 22, 1973 when, in a 7-to-2 majority vote, issued their decision to favor abortion in Roe vs. Wade. America continued to run even further from God. On January 22, 2019, 46 years after Roe vs Wade, “New York not only legalized late-term abortions, but also celebrated like it won the Super Bowl.” Apparently, the United States government chooses not to support being made in God’s image.
God’s supreme marital plan was also rewritten by America.
On June 26, 2015, the Court re-wrote the definition of marriage as defined in the Bible. Obergefell v. Hodges says state level bans on same sex marriage is unconstitutional. At present, courts are also going back and forth on the primary issue of identifying the male/female sex, something God established “In the beginning,”.
LORD, I’m sorry America persists in attacking Your perfect plan for humanity.
The Ten Commandments are continually seen in court.
God’s very words that He inscribed with His own finger are continually argued about in America’s courts. On eight different occasions, a 10 Commandments monument has found its way to the bench on the premise that it is unconstitutionally displayed on public property. Court rulings on the subject vary as to move these monuments, remove them, or let them stay in place.
Atheists are after our national motto.
Thankfully, the United States Congress remembered the need to acknowledge You, dear Lord, when they added “In God We Trust” to US coinage in 1864.
“In God We Trust” was then reaffirmed the national motto in November 2011 when the House of Representatives passed non-binding resolution (H.Con.Res.13) asserting its status as the U.S. national motto. It did so after President Barack Obama mistakenly referred to “E Pluribus Unum” as our nation’s official motto.
Regretfully, several atheist plaintiffs are arguing “In God We Trust” displayed on U.S. money is unconstitutional. In January 2016, a lawsuit was filed on their behalf and atheists continue to fight to have it removed.
America needs to surrender to God’s superiority!
It’s not just America’s government bodies attacking God:
Our elected officials also attack God. “And deep-seated cultural codes, religious beliefs and structural biases have to be changed. ” View the video of former First Lady and New York Senator Hillary Clinton .
Just to reconfirm–our country was built on a foundation of God. The many buildings decorated with Bible verses and religious statutes in Washington, D.C. prove it.
It seems all aspects of American government is currently turning away from God. But apart from God is not how America was first established as a country. We were grounded in God at our birth by the covenant of the Mayflower Compact, made by the Pilgrims with God and with each other. Evidence proving America favored God is actually carved from or written in stone and can be found throughout our nation’s capital.
A short documentary titled “Read The Walls”, narrated by Jim Engle and curtesy of Coral Ridge Ministries, walks us through a detailed account of religious displays in Washington D.C. Various Bible verses, religious statues and beautifully intricate pieces of religious artwork are found through out our national capital. All created for and to God’s glory!
There is one particular reference to God that no person on the ground will ever read. A glorifying inscription atop the Washington Monument’s capstone 555 feet above ground reads “Laus Deo!” Latin for–Praise be to God. Though others may forget, this is a great reminder Washington, D.C., America’s center of government, was indeed founded on God.

Dear Lord, I praise Your holy name. I praise You for allowing America to prosper, enjoy freedoms, and worship You freely. But I acknowledge as a country we are turning our back to You. We are changing Your natural order by incorporating our own corrupt ideas, not Your holy commandments, into America's daily life. We are sorry. Please forgive us. Hear our prays as we ask that Your mercy and grace shine upon us. Please allow us to elect leaders who love and respect You, so that America may once again be governed by people who follow Your word. Amen.
