AMERICA–Pray For Our Nation

If you follow my blog you no doubt read my post:14 Bible Verses to Pray Over Your Home. It was written to encourage prayer for God’s dominion over your home. With humble hearts you were asked to specifically pray in every room of your home, calling to the Lord, asking for blessings and favor as you proclaimed His faithful word.

As Christians that’s what we are supposed to do. We are to proclaim God’s word, His goodness, over every aspect of life. This means not just our lives but also over our homes, families, businesses, travel, relationships, health…everything.

And everything includes our government.

Yes, God should have sovereign authority over our government. But our government has slowly turned its back to God, forgetting the covenant our forefathers made with Him. We are losing track of right and wrong and need to get America back to understanding what President George Washington knew:

“the duty of all Nations to acknowledge the providence of Almighty God, to obey his will, to be grateful for his benefits, and humbly to implore his protection and favor,”

America, let’s acknowledge the providence of Almighty God and proclaim His word for our government. Position our hearts as servants of Christ to follow and believe scripture; call to God to save our land. We know He hears and responds to heartfelt prayer so as the body of Christ may we pray in agreement using these 7 scriptures as we claim only God has dominion over this great nation which by His mercy it was formed.

  1. AMERICA SINS

God used prophets as intermediaries to His people. Hosea was a prophet sent to warn Israel about a problem they chose to ignore–their sin. Here Hosea confirms to Israel: “Your sins have been your downfall!” Admitting America has a sin problem is the first step America must take towards receiving God’s dominion over our nation. Speak this verse out loud and claim it for America. “Return, America…”

Hosea 14:1-2  Return, Israel, to the LORD your God. Your sins have been your downfall! Take words with you and return to the LORD. Say to him: “Forgive all our sins and receive us graciously, that we may offer the fruit of our lips.

2. ACKNOWLEDGE GOD

Moses, a man of God, asked God to be with him as he lead the Jewish nation into the promised land. Moses was concerned what would distinguish God’s people from other nations if God was not with them. God, in all His glory, said yes that His Presence would be with him. God stated He gives mercy and compassion to those that He chooses. Read this passage and receive it with faith and conviction, acknowledging God chooses to pass in front of America in all His goodness.

Exodus 33:19 And the LORD said, “I will cause all my goodness to pass in front of you, and I will proclaim my name, the LORD, in your presence. I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion.

3. BE HUMBLE

As God passed, Moses bowed to the ground and worshipped Him. Moses, this leader of two million sons of Israel, was not pride filled. He humbled himself before God and worshiped His holiness. Friends, we can follow Moses’ example. Bow down before God as you read this next verse to honor God, to display your humility for our Lord, to be reverent to Him that He may choose to offer favor upon the United States.

Exodus 34:8-9  Moses bowed to the ground at once and worshiped. “Lord,” he said, “if I have found favor in your eyes, then let the Lord go with us. Although this is a stiff-necked people, forgive our wickedness and our sin, and take us as your inheritance.”

4. PRAISE GOD

America, we need to praise the LORD. The LORD is everywhere, at all times, and knows all things. No one can compare to His power or goodness. Praise Him with words, praise Him with song, praise Him with deeds, for He blesses those who trust in who He is.

Psalm 40:4-5 Blessed is the one who trusts in the LORD, who does not look to the proud, to those who turn aside to false gods. Many, LORD my God, are the wonders you have done, the things you planned for us. None can compare with you; were I to speak and tell of your deeds, they would be too many to declare.

5. CONFESS

Everyone sins and falls short of God’s glory. Everyone sins in thought, word and deed. Everyone except One, because He was fully human and fully God. We must confess our sin in order to be made whole as a nation. Please take time to list some of the sin America is guilty of–ignoring the words of Jesus, pornography, idolatry, abortion, greed, prideful, removing God from family and schools and businesses, homosexuality, and not fighting for Christian laws just to name a few. Then claim the following verses as truth that our God is faithful and just.

1 John 1:9-10 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. If we claim we have not sinned, we make him out to be a liar and his word is not in us.

6. PLEAD FOR RESTORATION

The Bible states God hears us when we pray. Christians, don’t hold back in asking God to heal our land. Proclaim His awesome power over our inferior capabilities and allow only God to have dominion over this great nation which He formed. We need a revival to flourish and receive restoration from God. Pray that America may again please God and receive His unfailing love.

Psalm 85:4-7 Restore us again, God our Savior, and put away your displeasure toward us. Will you be angry with us forever? Will you prolong your anger through all generations? Will you not revive us again, that your people may rejoice in you? Show us your unfailing love, LORD, and grant us your salvation.

7. BELIEVE

Jesus said, “If you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer.” As servants of Christ we must believe His instructs and live accordingly. Those who live for Jesus receive abundant blessings. “If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit;” Both of these statements made by Jesus pertain to nations as well as to individuals.

America, if we are to prosper again we must believe God’s word; believe the holy scriptures we’ve just read and offered back to Him. We must believe His goodness is needed in every aspect of our lives and yes, that includes our government. Believe God loves you and wants only the best for America. What’s best is He should have Sovereign Authority. And, believe that only through this Sovereign Authority will America ever prosper again.

John 15:5-7 “I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing. If you do not remain in me, you are like a branch that is thrown away and withers; such branches are picked up, thrown into the fire and burned. If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you.

AMEM.

ARE YOU A FOLLOWER OF JESUS?

If you’re not certain you’ve ever invited Jesus into your heart, now is the perfect time. Pray this sinner’s prayer found at Gotquestions.com. Through Jesus you will receive the hope that He alone offers.

“God, I know that I am a sinner. I know that I deserve the consequences of my sin. However, I am trusting in Jesus Christ as my Savior. I believe that His death and resurrection provided for my forgiveness. I trust in Jesus and Jesus alone as my personal Lord and Savior. Thank you Lord, for saving me and forgiving me! Amen!”
