The Bible tells us Joseph was the eleventh son born to Jacob, his mother was called Rachel. Joseph’s older brothers despised him because he was the favored son of Jacob.
Genesis 37:3 Now Israel [Jacob] loved Joseph more than any of his other sons, because he had been born to him in his old age; and he made an ornate robe for him.
