Believe In Christmas!

Believe in Christmas

What a blessing to be spending the holidays with my husband, mother, daughter and son-in-law!

Holiday’s past included a wider field of family, but over the years that has changed. Beloved members have passed, some moved out of state, and sadly, we have lost touch with others for various reasons.

However, though our party group has gotten smaller, I have found I have expanded my understanding of the meaning of Christmas. Not that it was the people that abstracted my former appreciation of Christmas. All the partying and gifts we enjoyed were a welcomed part of our celebration which still takes place today. It’s more that I’ve grown through Christ by believing all that the new born King now means to me.

From a young age I thought I was a Christian, going to church, saying prayers, trying to be good. Those things are nice, but they aren’t why Christ came to us on that special day in Bethlehem. Those things I did are works – good works. But still, simply works.

The truth is Christ was born for one reason. To be the Savior of the world! This fact was told to Joseph, Mary’s betrothed, by an angel of the Lord in a dream:

Matthew 1:21 She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins.”

In His own words during His three year ministry, Jesus confirmed the truth:

Luke 19:10 For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.”

Once we believe this truth, we are God’s adopted children. I believe I am now a member of Christ’s family, fully known and fully loved. No matter how large or small my earthly family is, I know my Father will never leave me nor forsake me.

Timothy, the apostle Paul’s protege and pastor of the church in Ephesus had this to say about the Christ:

1 Timothy 1:15 It is a trustworthy statement, deserving full acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, among whom I am foremost of all.

It’s hard for me to understand this devoted follower of Christ would consider himself such a sinner. But when we use Christ as the measuring stick, we all fall short of His glory. I fully believe I am redeemed only through this precious baby born in the manger, who took my sin with Him to the Cross.

What an eternal gift He has given us! If you are not part of Christ’s family, what a perfect season it is, right now, to invite Him into your life. He asks for nothing in return, only that you simply believe in the meaning of Christmas.
