Getting To Know Jesus The Christ

Sometimes telling/asking someone to change their bad habit to a good habit is simply not enough motive. People want facts/explanations as to why a change is considered necessary. Perhaps that is why the bad habit of texting OMG, spewing  Oh My G**! or vomiting J**** C****! is not always understood as wrong. When using those names as exclamations, many do not understand why they are breaking the third commandment. Continue reading

“He Is Risen, Indeed!”

He is risen, indeed!

The Good News Of Jesus Christ

The new church was quick to expand after Jesus Christ resurrected. His new followers, called Christians, had the mission of spreading the Good News: Jesus has authority over death! Their greeting to each other reflected this truth.

When two Christians would meet, one would say: “He is risen.” And the other would respond with: “He is risen, indeed!” Today, that exchange is often carried out by pastor and congregation in church services throughout the world. What a beautiful public acknowledgment: we believe in the hope He promised us. Continue reading

I Am Barabbas!

I am Barabbas!

bar-abbas means “son of Abba”

While Jesus, the Son of God, was out teaching the Jewish people about love,  a rebel named Barabbas lead a group of political insurgents in a rebellion against Rome. Barabbas was a murderer who hated paying taxes to Rome and was aggressively trying to end all Roman authority.  His group of insurrectionists started an uprising and because of this they were thrown into prison. Luke 18:9-14 Respected Religious Leader versus Selfish Corrupt Tax Collector

A friend of mine and co-blogger, Laura Martin, published her book Positively Powerless – How a Forgotten Movement Undermined Christianity, WestBow Press. She was gracious enough to provide me with a copy to enjoy and write a review. Her topic is how the movement of positive thinking has “dethroned [Christ] and the self was made sovereign, rewiring our minds and weakening our faith.” Continue reading

JESUS Helps Us Overcome

Jesus helps us overcome

No person is ever so low they can not reach Jesus.

The Son of God spent three years in His earthly ministry. During that time Jesus instructed and demonstrated His love to Israel. Jesus never turned His back on anyone. This includes people the Israelites themselves looked down upon. The same people the Pharisees, a highly respected religious group, chose to disregard as petty, low-life or worthless. Break The Chain – OMG and Oh My G**!

‘sBreak The Chain

This post marks the 100th message for the Lift Him Up blog. To celebrate this milestone, a new tab has been introduced on the menu bar: Break The Chain.

Since August of 2014, Lift Him Up has praised, revered, glorified and lifted up our Creator’s title – God. To do any less in our everyday-God-given-lives, is blaspheme. So consider today’s message as extra special to our Father, because I invite you to Break The Chain of misusing His name! Break The Chain was created as a format for you to post your personal commitment to refraining from this social misuse. Or a place to talk about any misuse of God’s name you have seen or heard, and how you feel about it.  Continue reading

Daniel’s Prayer

Daniel's Prayer

I was reading the book of Daniel, and came across Daniel’s prayerful plea for his nation Israel. In these times of national rebellion, hostility towards a neighbor and civic disregard for God’s Word, I though now is a good time to remember what open, honest prayer with God sounds like. Here is Daniel 9:4-19 : Continue reading

ABRAHAM – Faith To Follow God No Matter…

Abraham

One year ago on August 4, I created my first blog post. That post introduced the theme for this blog – desiring to lift up God’s name. The Bible describes many men and women with interesting accounts much more courageous and God centered than any posts I have written. Their stories recount God’s chosen; those who desired to lift up His holy name. They were men and women displaying unending confidence and trust in all God asked them to do. And one of those faithful men is Abraham. Continue reading
