Getting To Know Jesus The Christ
Sometimes telling/asking someone to change their bad habit to a good habit is simply not enough motive. People want facts/explanations as to why a change is considered necessary. Perhaps that is why the bad habit of texting OMG, spewing Oh My G**! or vomiting J**** C****! is not always understood as wrong. When using those names as exclamations, many do not understand why they are breaking the third commandment.
“You shall not misuse the name of the LORD your God, for the LORD will not hold anyone guiltless who misuses his name. Exodus 20:7
Since G-o-d is the name title of our Almighty LORD, and Jesus is Himself God in the flesh, neither name should ever be used as an exclamation because of who they are.
So here are 12 powerful facts found in scripture explaining who Jesus is and why we should never take His name in vain:
1.Jesus is the Son of God……. Matthew 16:15-17; Mark 1:1; Luke 22:70-71
“But what about you?” he asked. “Who do you say I am?” Simon Peter answered, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.” Jesus replied, “Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by flesh and blood, but by my Father in heaven. Matthew 16:15-17
2.Jesus is God who became human…….John 1:1-2, 14; John 20:28
The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth. John 1:14
3.Jesus is the Christ, the Messiah…….Matthew 26:63-64; Mark 14:61-62; Mark 9:20; John 4:25-26
But Jesus remained silent and gave no answer. Again the high priest asked him, “Are you the Messiah, the Son of the Blessed One?” “I am,” said Jesus. “And you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of the Mighty One and coming on the clouds of heaven.” Mark 14:61-62
4.Jesus came to help sinners…….Matthew 9:13; Luke 5:31-32
Jesus answered them, “It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.” Luke 5:31-32
5.Jesus has power to forgive sins…….Mark 2:9-12; Luke 24:46-47
He told them, “This is what is written: The Messiah will suffer and rise from the dead on the third day, and repentance for the forgiveness of sins will be preached in his name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem. Luke 24:46-47
6.Jesus has authority over death…….Matthew 28:5-6; Mark 5:22-24, 35-42; Luke 24:5-6; John 11:1-44
The angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. He is not here; he has risen, just as he said. Come and see the place where he lay. Matthew 28:5-6
7.Jesus has power to give eternal life…….John 10:28; 17:2
I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one will snatch them out of my hand. John 10:28
8.Jesus healed the sick…….Matthew 8:5-13; Mark 1:32-34; Luke 5:12-15; John 9:1-7
That evening after sunset the people brought to Jesus all the sick and demon-possessed. The whole town gathered at the door, and Jesus healed many who had various diseases. He also drove out many demons, but he would not let the demons speak because they knew who he was. Mark 1:32-34
9.Jesus taught with authority…….Matthew 7:28-29; Mark 1:21-22
When Jesus had finished saying these things, the crowds were amazed at his teaching, because he taught as one who had authority, and not as their teachers of the law. Matthew 7:28-29
10.Jesus was compassionate…….Matthew 9:36; Mark:1:41; Mark 8:2
When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. Matthew 9:36
11. Jesus experienced sorrow…….Matthew 26:38; John 11:35
Jesus wept. John 11:35
12. Jesus never disobeyed God…….Matthew 3:15; John 8:46
Can any of you prove me guilty of sin? If I am telling the truth, why don’t you believe me? John 8:46
