Washington, D.C. – Hear the Words of Psalm 46

Psalm 46 contains an often repeated yet misinterpreted verse from the Bible:

Be still, and know that I am God.

Taken at its word “be still” could mean “be quiet” or “wait.” But, it’s important that we not ignore the context in which the phrase is used. One needs to know exactly what the psalm is referencing before randomly removing a sentence from an entire chapter and fathoming its meaning. In it, the psalmist tells a short story beginning with referencing “trouble”.

Taken from chapter 46 in Psalms, “Be still” isn’t meant to imply passively waiting on the Lord. By studying the Hebrew word and pulling together the entire chapter we see the statement implies more of a call to action. The action to “stop”. As we think about the political climate of America right now this particular verse, in fact the entire chapter, can poetically be applied to the current activity in Washington, D.C.

AMERICA–Believe In The Power Of Prayer

Ancient Israel did not have the personal relationship with God that Christians experience today in America. It’s only through the acceptance of The Cross, all that Jesus suffered pertaining to His death and resurrection, and the empowerment of Holy Spirit, that Americans and all peoples can experience a personal relationship with our Father.

That’s good news for Americans to remember right now, since many citizens during this current political climate are having trouble seeing the presence of God.

If that’s you, if you’re a believer in Christ yet currently doubt God still resides in our nation’s capitol, perhaps it’s time to step-up your prayer routine.

Prayer is our connection to God.

AMERICA–Pray For Our Nation

If you follow my blog you no doubt read my post:14 Bible Verses to Pray Over Your Home. It was written to encourage prayer for God’s dominion over your home. With humble hearts you were asked to specifically pray in every room of your home, calling to the Lord, asking for blessings and favor as you proclaimed His faithful word.

As Christians that’s what we are supposed to do. We are to proclaim God’s word, His goodness, over every aspect of life. This means not just our lives but also over our homes, families, businesses, travel, relationships, health…everything.

And everything includes our government.

Yes, God should have sovereign authority over our government. But our government has slowly turned its back to God, forgetting the covenant our forefathers made with Him. We are losing track of right and wrong and need to get America back to understanding what President George Washington knew:

America Was Established On God, But Then…

I admire this nation formed by God. I respect the brave men and women, motivated by God, who fought to establish this country. The precise structure and composing of our Declaration of Independence was hard fought along with our Constitution which affords us liberty and personal rights. How wonderful to be born in a country with these freedoms. May God bless America.

When independence was declared from Great Britain on July 4, 1776, God birthed a new nation. To His glory this new nation was fully aware of their Creator.

”We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.” — The Declaration of Independence.

Of the 56 men who signed this founding document, nearly half (24) held seminary or Bible school degrees. Clearly their instilled Christian faith affected these Founding Fathers as they referenced God in historical documents.

America–Let’s Lift Him Up!

It’s not hard to notice America is living though some tough times right now. The negative effects of Covid continue to cause wide spread havoc in our country. And half of America is unhappy with Washington as politicians fight amongst themselves for their own glory and not for the livelihood of its citizens. With all this chaos causing a domino effect of problems for America it’s understandable folks are feeling lost.

But what, dear Christians, does God instruct His children to do in all circumstances despite living through hardship? The Bible tells us we are to praise Him, Habakkuk 3:17-19. We are to praise His holy name. No matter our situation, good or bad, we are to praise our great Creator. He is the the only One who knows the “why” of all events. Brothers and sisters in Christ, I know it’s hard, but we are to obey His instruction, to place our faith and trust in His perfect plan and timing. He will get us through this season.

Over the years America has separated from God’s timing. We’ve allowed ourselves to indulge in more “me time” and less “God time.” We’ve drifted from the truth, removing God from our government, schools, businesses and even our families. Sadly we opt to fix, or should I state manipulate, situations by our own means. We take on our problems as do-it-yourself projects. But think about it…how’s that technique really working for us?

You Can Get Fired For Praying! Christians, we must stop the injustice.

Folks, the time is here. Don’t think it won’t happen to you. Don’t think courts have your back when it comes to protecting freedom to publicly pray. The state of Washington certainly is not protecting high school football coach Joe Kennedy for his action of prayer on the playing field. If anything, the system is all about stripping him of his freedom to pray,—and you may be next!

In a years long ordeal Coach Kennedy, a man with twenty years of military service to our country, has been fighting to preserve his first Amendment right to pray at work.

“Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.”

You ask—”How Can America Become Great?” No worries, God already told us!

Many conversations are evolving across America regarding the condition of our country. Some citizens say we should have more laws to enforce specific crimes. Other folks are concerned that our elected officials are corrupting the current system of justice.

What, as Christian American citizens, is our role or responsibility to make sure our country continues to prosper? Should we just turn the other cheek when we see the country falter? Or is rebelling against undesired government decisions the better option to grow a strong nation? Honestly, who knows the correct answers?

God knows!

In His omniscient, all-knowing power, (Psalm 139:1-24), God knew all the problems that citizens of a nation would face. And in accordance with His all-loving nature, God gave instruction on how to live with justice for all.

You should go to church this Sunday!

God misses you when you don’t call out His name.

Are you questioning if Christianity in America is on the decline? Maybe you’ve witnessed family and friends gradually reduce their attendance to church services and events? Or perhaps, you are the one “declining” by sleeping in one or two Sundays each month because you didn’t feel like getting out of bed? (Just too tired to worship, aye?)

May I remind you–You Are Loved–and God misses your exact presence in His house! He misses your beautiful smile. He misses your heart. He misses you singing worship songs off key! God misses every thought, word and deed that you aren’t sharing with Him when you remove yourself from His presence.

God created you to have a relationship with Him and He truly misses it when you stop calling His name.

For the last few weeks a high volume of Christians have been deep in the trenches, drawn together doing what we do best in all situations—Praying! Prayer is a powerful thing! When family (as well as ourselves), friends, anyone—including our government—is suffering, Christians ALWAYS offer prayer.
