Too often Christians forget that believing in Christ offers many benefits. Benefits born in faith enable Christians to stand firm with joyful hearts as we await Christ’s return.
Christians are unique, set apart to live as Christ lived on earth, with the satisfaction/contentment God provides through Christ.
I encourage you brothers and sisters, stay strong in all circumstances. Remember whose you are and reap the benefits of Christ’s work on the cross.
In the first chapter of the apostle Paul’s letter to the Colossians, Paul lists five benefits God gives to believers in Jesus. These benefits are not limited to Colossians, but can be found in other books of the Bible s well.
Colossians 1:10-14 so that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and please him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God, being strengthened with all power according to his glorious might so that you may have great endurance and patience, and giving joyful thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of his holy people in the kingdom of light. For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.
- Qualified to share in the inheritance
The first benefit Paul lists is we, as adopted children of God, get to share in His inheritance. This inheritance is heaven itself. Our position in heaven will never be taken from us, it is secured in Christ. Jesus Himself prepares our rooms, as found in John 14.
2. Rescued us from the dominion of darkness
Satan operates in a dominion of darkness. It is Jesus, God’s one and only son, who opens our eyes bringing us from the dark evils of this world into the light of His goodness and grace. A benefit of being a Christian is the fact that Jesus rescues us from eternity with satan. Acts 26:16-18
3. Brought us into the kingdom
No one receives the benefit of entering into the kingdom of God by doing good works. Christianity is not founded on good works. Believing in Jesus is the only path to heaven. John 14:6
4. In whom we have redemption
Humanity’s redemption, freedom from sin, only comes from Christ’s sacrificial death on the cross. Because of Adam and Eve’s sin no one on earth is without sin, therefore, God made a way for all to be forgiven; to receive the benefit of redemption. Psalm 111:6-9
5. The forgiveness of sins
Only through believing in Jesus and confessing our sin can we reap the benefit of forgiveness. But don’t be afraid! Jesus is eager, waiting, and willing for you to approach Him in prayerful confession. His desire is to build a personal relationship with you. 1 John 1:9
