American Christians – Claim Your Identity

Last week I posted the need for American Christians to stop remaining quiet, to stop allowing elected officials to push America deeper into a pit of immorality. American Christians must understand the impact of remaining neutral. Remain neutral – being neither hot nor cold – is basically an affront to God.

Remaining neutral on topics that affect the stability of Christian freedoms and morals in America, for generations to come, offers no hope for a stable righteous America. If we remain neutral the bad guys win because no-one will be standing firm on God’s word. Neutrality never helps the victim, it enables the oppressor.

God is not neutral, He will not stand with those who do not claim Him.

Revelation 3:15-16 I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you were either one or the other! So, because you are lukewarm—neither hot nor cold—I am about to spit you out of my mouth.

God loves us, He created us, and His desire is that Americans prosper. However there can be no ordained prosperity when we refuse to claim our Christian identity. Elijah the prophet faced a situation such as this when, on Mount Carmel, he was confronting the people of Israel to stand for God instead of choosing Baal as their god. But the people would not voice a choice.

1 Kings 18:21 Elijah went before the people and said, “How long will you waver between two opinions? If the LORD is God, follow him; but if Baal is God, follow him.” But the people said nothing.

It wasn’t until Elijah’s offering of a sacrificial bull, drenched in water yet sent afire by God and burned up, that the people spoke and gave God His due glory.

1 Kings 18:37-39 Answer me, LORD, answer me, so these people will know that you, LORD, are God, and that you are turning their hearts back again.” Then the fire of the LORD fell and burned up the sacrifice, the wood, the stones and the soil, and also licked up the water in the trench. When all the people saw this, they fell prostrate and cried, “The LORD—he is God! The LORD—he is God!”

Elijah was the one who spoke first, who claimed his own identity in God. He believed in God’s power, called on it, and was rewarded for his faith. And because Elijah was faithful and stood for God evil was removed.

1 Kings 18:40 Then Elijah commanded them, “Seize the prophets of Baal. Don’t let anyone get away!” They seized them, and Elijah had them brought down to the Kishon Valley and slaughtered there.

Elijah’s leadership lead others to claim and worship God. Imagine if you were the Elijah in your group. If you were to become that person who refuses to back down from proclaiming the power of God. By placing your trust and faith in God, by claiming His righteous power over evil, you can slaughter all immorality in your home, the community, and in our government.

God sets Christians apart from the false teachings of today, just as He set Elijah apart from Baal worshipers of ancient Israel. And just as God used Elijah to remind and demonstrate to others His power reigns supreme, God can also use you to claim victory in His name.

2 Corinthians 1:21-22 Now it is God who makes both us and you stand firm in Christ. He anointed us, set his seal of ownership on us, and put his Spirit in our hearts as a deposit, guaranteeing what is to come.

Are You A Follower Of Jesus?

If you’re uncertain you’ve ever invited Jesus into your heart – now is the perfect time. Pray this sinner’s prayer found at Gotquestions.com. Only through Jesus Christ can you receive the redemptive hope that He alone offers.

“God, I know that I am a sinner. I know that I deserve the consequences of my sin. However, I am trusting in Jesus Christ as my Savior. I believe that His death and resurrection provided for my forgiveness. I trust in Jesus and Jesus alone as my personal Lord and Savior. Thank you Lord, for saving me and forgiving me! Amen!”
