AMERICA–Stand Up For Christian Freedom

Whenever and wherever a Christian service takes place in America we have laws stating all are welcome to attend. How wonderful it is to have this freedom. The freedom to openly worship God and hear the gospel of Jesus Christ.

No matter if it’s Lutheran, Methodist, Pentecostal, Catholic, Episcopalian, Baptist or any other Christian denomination, I know I’m free to openly carry my Bible into the building of any church in any state and praise the LORD!

Freedom to openly worship in church in America is important to Christians, but open worship has two parts. True open worship means we also, as followers of Christ, have freedom to live the biblical teachings we learn in church. This means allowing Christians to openly live Godly lives; to make family decisions, educational choices, businesses dealings and health options based on what God’s Word tells us.

If the second part of open worship is stripped away from us: High School Coach Fired Over Prayers, Baker Sued For Not Baking Cake For Gay Couple, Florist Fined For Refusing Same-Sex Wedding, it won’t be long before our freedom to worship is also taken away.

Many countries around the world still persecute Christians. Research shows last year:

  • 340 million Christians live in places with high levels of persecution and discrimination
  • 4,761 Christians were killed for their faith
  • 4,488 Christian churches and buildings were attacked
  • 4,277 believers were detained, arrested or jailed without trial

India, North Korea, Nigeria, Sir Lanka, Russia and China are just a few of the countries that do not have the Christian freedoms which Americans celebrate.

Jesus knew preaching the Good News would be a hard and sometimes fatal task for His followers. Remember why Jesus was crucified? “… the Jews were seeking all the more to kill him, because not only was he breaking the Sabbath, but he was even calling God his own Father, making himself equal with God.”

Jesus broke Jewish law by healing others on the Sabbath and He claimed to be the Son of God. That’s why the religious leaders wanted Him crucified. They said Jesus was blasphemous and they also considered Him a threat to what the stood for.

Of course Jesus knew He was to be crucified, that was His purpose in coming to earth. He is the last sacrifice for sin. The religious leaders evil plans were always part of God’s plan. Then after Jesus was crucified and rose from the dead Jesus gave instructions to His disciples to spread the Good News.

Matthew 28:18-20 Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

The blessing, the benefit and gain to mankind, is Jesus’ original eleven disciples understood their journey of truth would not be easy yet they followed His last instruction. Those disciples knew Jesus was the Son of God and needed to worship Him and share the Good News. Till their own torturous deaths (all except for John who died naturally) they, like Christians of India, North Korea, Nigeria, Sir Lanka, Russia and China, chose to preach the Gospel to all who had ears to hear despite knowing their own probable demise.

Christian Americans, unless we elect believing officials into government positions who are willing to stand for Christ, our Christian voice will not be heard. Unless officials of Christian faith make sure to enforce or enact laws protecting Christians, we will not be able to openly live Godly lives for our savior.

Unlike modern America, in which the most influential voice in the culture is the media, in colonial America the pulpit served as the single most powerful voice to inspire the thinking and reasoning of the colonists. What fired the colonial pulpit was the influence of Reformers John Knox and John Calvin. Their teachings on the Kingdom of Christ and the authority of the Scripture gave rise to the colonial form of self- and civil government.

Colossians 1:18-19 And he is the head of the body, the church; he is the beginning and the firstborn from among the dead, so that in everything he might have the supremacy. For God was pleased to have all his fullness dwell in him,

America was originally lead from the pulpit and built on a covenant with God. We must never allow unbelievers to fraudulently proclaim this is not the truth. The handprint of God is all over Washington D.C. Christians, we must make a stand and not allow God’s presence to be removed from what our forefathers proclaimed and fought for with their blood, sweat and tears.

We can stand up through our votes, by paying attention to what our schools are teaching, by being a Christian at work and at home, and most importantly through prayer.

Pray for all aspects of America’s government to return to the fundamental Christian principals so that God may continue to put His favor upon us.

Dear Lord, I praise Your holy name. I praise You for allowing America to prosper, enjoy freedoms, and worship You freely. But I acknowledge as a country we are turning our back to You. We are changing Your natural order by incorporating our own corrupt ideas, not Your holy commandments, into America's daily life. We are sorry. Please forgive us. Hear our prays as we ask that Your mercy and grace shine upon us. Please allow us to elect leaders who love and respect You. May America may once again be governed by people who follow Your word and never remove our freedom to worship You. Amen.

If you’re not certain you’ve ever invited Jesus into your heart, now is the perfect time. Pray this sinner’s prayer found at Gotquestions.com. Through Jesus you will receive the hope that He alone offers.

“God, I know that I am a sinner. I know that I deserve the consequences of my sin. However, I am trusting in Jesus Christ as my Savior. I believe that His death and resurrection provided for my forgiveness. I trust in Jesus and Jesus alone as my personal Lord and Savior. Thank you Lord, for saving me and forgiving me! Amen!”
