AMERICA – It’s not too late to follow God.

Since the formation of America, beginning with the Mayflower Compact, God has been an integral part of our history. But, like nations of old in the Bible, America too often gets prideful and ignores God. We become arrogant. We stop turning to the Bible for guidance and instead trust our own words over God’s Word.

The same selfishness happened among the Israelites, and history shows that didn’t work well for them. In fact their recklessness for God’s Word left them wandering in the desert for forty years. They were not allowed to enter the Promised Land. It was punishment to the whole generation who stopped believing in God’s power.

God gave Israel many chances to go back to following His word. But Israel did not heed the warnings. Finally, God allowed the city to be destroyed because so many in its nation forsook God and turned to paganism.

America, it’s important to remember and learn from the ancient history of God.

Right now United States is in moral turmoil. We are allowing our government to do as the people of ancient Israel did–turn their backs to God. It’s apparent this is happening in America by the many unrighteous acts we commit which offer no reflection of God’s glory.

  • We took prayer out of schools.
  • Americans riot against our own communities.
  • The sacred definition of marriage has been redefined by courts.
  • Saying “Merry Christmas” is frowned upon.
  • Expressing views opposed to liberalism stirs aggressive outrage.
  • Politicians lying to voters is commonplace.
  • Little girls are forced to share bathrooms with old men.
  • Stating “All lives matter” incites hate.
  • Government penalizes businesses/persons if they stand up for Christian beliefs.
  • Approximately 62 million babies have been aborted.

And that is just the short list.

Clearly we are not living in an environment that pleases God; an environment that stands for and speaks of what God represents. But thankfully, as we’ve also learned from God’s interactions with ancient Israel, God is loving and always offers another chance.

AMERICA – It’s not too late to follow God.

When we read the Bible we learn how to follow God, we learn what He wants us to do.  God’s Word tells us He’s there for us in times of trouble “Call to me and I will answer you”. America, it’s not too late for us to repent. God is faithful to His people in times of darkness.

Jeremiah 33:2-4 “This is what the LORD says, he who made the earth, the LORD who formed it and established it—the LORD is his name: ‘Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know. ‘For this is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says about the houses in this city and the royal palaces of Judah that have been torn down to be used against the siege ramps and the sword

God will answer prayers for our nation because He’s a loving God. The Bible tells us God is good to all who call upon Him.

Psalm 86:5 You, Lord, are forgiving and good, abounding in love to all who call to you.

There was a time when the prophet Jeremiah was thrown into a pit and left to die. But Jeremiah knew God as the Father of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. He called on God’s name for help and God rescued him. Though his circumstance seams bleak, Jeremiah knew that God could deliver him from evil. America, we as a nation should also call upon God in our times of trouble.

Lamentations 3:55 I called on your name, LORD, from the depths of the pit.

Mighty King David, though he loved God dearly, was still a sinful man. But he always repented and returned to God. David often sang praises to God for saving him from his many enemies. David knew to ask God for protection.

2 Samuel 22:4 “I called to the LORD, who is worthy of praise, and have been saved from my enemies.

David continually sought God’s heart. He was a warrior in constant battle and knew God was his only hope in overcoming evil. David always came back to God. America, we can learn from David’s mistakes.

Psalm 17:6-9 I call on you, my God, for you will answer me; turn your ear to me and hear my prayer. Show me the wonders of your great love, you who save by your right hand those who take refuge in you from their foes. Keep me as the apple of your eye; hide me in the shadow of your wings from the wicked who are out to destroy me, from my mortal enemies who surround me.

Moses pleaded with God for mercy when God wanted to destroy the nation of Israel because of their sin – then God spared them! America, let us remember God is merciful.

Exodus 32:11-12 But Moses sought the favor of the LORD his God. “LORD,” he said, “why should your anger burn against your people, whom you brought out of Egypt with great power and a mighty hand? Why should the Egyptians say, ‘It was with evil intent that he brought them out, to kill them in the mountains and to wipe them off the face of the earth’? Turn from your fierce anger; relent and do not bring disaster on your people.

Jonah spent three days and nights in the belly of a fish because he would not do as God asked: Preach against the city of Nineveh because of its wickedness. Jonah was thankful he was not drowned and offered the following prayer to God. Even when death seems eminent, when there seems to be no hope, God can delivery.

Jonah 2:2 He said: “In my distress I called to the LORD, and he answered me. From deep in the realm of the dead I called for help, and you listened to my cry.

God is sovereign. It is never to late to praise the LORD and acknowledge all that He is and all that He has done. He has brought America through many hardships.

1 Chronicles 16:8 Give praise to the LORD, proclaim his name; make known among the nations what he has done.

God is our salvation. America, biblical history reveals God is always there for those who repent and rejoice in the Lord. Let us acknowledge Him and all that He is. Like Jeremiah, David, Moses and Jonah knew, we will be saved when we call on the name of the Lord.

Acts 2:21 And everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.’

If you’re unhappy with the way America’s government is turning it’s back on God, please join me in this prayer:

Dear Lord, I praise Your holy name. I praise You for allowing America to prosper, enjoy freedoms, and worship You freely. But I acknowledge as a country we are turning our back to You. We are changing Your natural order, incorporating our own corrupt ideas, not Your holy commandments, into America's daily life. We are sorry. Please forgive us. Hear our prays as we ask that Your mercy and grace shine upon us. Please allow us to elect leaders who love and respect You, so that America may once again be governed by people who respect and follow Your word. Amen.

ARE YOU A FOLLOWER OF JESUS?

If you’re not certain you’ve ever invited Jesus into your heart, now is the perfect time. Pray this sinner’s prayer found at Gotquestions.com. Through Jesus you will receive the hope that He alone offers.

“God, I know that I am a sinner. I know that I deserve the consequences of my sin. However, I am trusting in Jesus Christ as my Savior. I believe that His death and resurrection provided for my forgiveness. I trust in Jesus and Jesus alone as my personal Lord and Savior. Thank you Lord, for saving me and forgiving me! Amen!”
