The Bible offers many verses telling us how/who the LORD blesses. America, why are we not listening to Him? I want to be blessed. I want my country to be blessed. Don’t you as a nation want blessings as well…to be prosperous, at peace, in love with our fellow man, and most importantly forgiven?
Blessings from God are receivable, America. Overwhelming blessings to enable us to stay strong and prosper. But blessings only occur if we delight not in ourselves, not in vain might, and definitely not in false gods. Blessings come from following the law of LORD.
Psalm 1:1-3 Blessed is the one who does not walk in step with the wicked or stand in the way that sinners take or sit in the company of mockers, but whose delight is in the law of the LORD, and who meditates on his law day and night. That person is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither— whatever they do prospers.
The word blessed is shared in the Bible more than seventy times. Often, God uses blessed in a context of instruction; He tells us how to be blessed personally:
Job 5:17 “Blessed is the one whom God corrects; so do not despise the discipline of the Almighty.
Isaiah 56:2 Blessed is the one who does this— the person who holds it fast, who keeps the Sabbath without desecrating it, and keeps their hands from doing any evil.”
Psalm 34:8 Taste and see that the LORD is good; blessed is the one who takes refuge in him.
Psalm 40:4 Blessed is the one who trusts in the LORD, who does not look to the proud, to those who turn aside to false gods.
God also tells us how to be blessed as a nation:
Psalm 33:10-12 The LORD foils the plans of the nations; he thwarts the purposes of the peoples. But the plans of the LORD stand firm forever, the purposes of his heart through all generations. Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD, the people he chose for his inheritance.
Malachi 3:8-12 “Will a mere mortal rob God? Yet you rob me. “But you ask, ‘How are we robbing you?’ “In tithes and offerings. You are under a curse—your whole nation—because you are robbing me. Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this,” says the LORD Almighty, “and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that there will not be room enough to store it. I will prevent pests from devouring your crops, and the vines in your fields will not drop their fruit before it is ripe,” says the LORD Almighty. “Then all the nations will call you blessed, for yours will be a delightful land,” says the LORD Almighty.
Scripture reminds us all blessings come from above. It is the LORD Almighty who provides, not individuals or government. May our leaders and citizens of America remember blessings come from God, and may we humbly offer all sin to Jesus.
Psalm 32:1 Blessed is the one whose transgressions are forgiven, whose sins are covered.
