In the New Testament is where we find the Good News of Jesus Christ shared with mankind. It is because Jesus conquered death through His resurrection that the Apostles traveled about explaining the new way to lead a God-Centered life.
But image what the Jews and Gentiles in Jesus’ day were going through. They were living a long established God-Centered life through their laws given by Moses, and now a new way of experiencing a relationship with God was being taught.
Thankfully, the Bible offers clear direction on how to live a God centered life. Let’s break it down to five of the basics:
1.Believe Who Jesus Is
John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
The Word [Jesus] is the second person of the Trinity. Jesus came in flesh to humanity to reveal His deity and become the final sacrifice between man and God. Think of Jesus as our bridge to a personal relationship with God.
2.Believe Jesus Died For Our Sins
1 John 2:1-2 My dear children, I write this to you so that you will not sin. But if anybody does sin, we have an advocate with the Father—Jesus Christ, the Righteous One. He is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only for ours but also for the sins of the whole world.
God’s plan from the beginning was placing Jesus on The Cross to atone for all sin. God’s design also includes instilling us with free will, even though He recognizes our humanness leads to sinful choices.
3.Think And Do For Others
John 15:10-11 If you keep my commands, you will remain in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commands and remain in his love. I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete.
God sent His Son to earth to be our physical example of who God is. We are blessed with Jesus’ example of spotless holiness as He walked and talked a life of righteousness. Jesus was humble, lived in perfect obedience to His Father, and continually thought of others wellbeing.
Luke 23:34 Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.” And they divided up his clothes by casting lots.
Even as He hung dying on The Cross, Jesus was concerned for the life-after-death of others.
4.Pray
Jeremiah 29:12 Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you.
Jesus was in constant prayer with the Father. He prayed during every circumstance: at His baptism, in the morning, in the night, before meals, before teaching, before miracles, before raising the dead, at His Transfiguration, while healing others, after healing others, for Himself, for those around Him, and as He hung on The Cross.
Through all situations, even situations that we know as horrible, Jesus turned to God in prayer. Prayer is personal acknowledgement that God is in control of the situation and we desire to fulfill His plan for us, whatever that may be.
5.Read The Bible
2 Timothy 3:16-17 All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.
The Bible tells us God is self-sufficient and needs nothing from us. However, He did create us, designing all things for each of us and wanting us to turn to Him in all things. His desire is having a personal relationship with each of His children.
Do you have a personal relationship with God? If you don’t but would like to, I encourage you right now to pray this sinner’s prayer found at Gotquestions.com:
“God, I know that I am a sinner. I know that I deserve the consequences of my sin. However, I am trusting in Jesus Christ as my Savior. I believe that His death and resurrection provided for my forgiveness. I trust in Jesus and Jesus alone as my personal Lord and Savior. Thank you Lord, for saving me and forgiving me! Amen!”
Congratulations! By praying this heartfelt sinner’s prayer, you have just invited Christ into your life! I encourage you to continue that journey by committing yourself to follow these 5 easy steps and live a life centered on God. Blessings.
