One of the many tasks the Holy Spirit carries out is the bestowing of special spiritual gifts to all believers. Spiritual gifts are to lift up and glorify God through the body of the church, the church being Christ’s followers. Spiritual gifts are not meant to glorify oneself, rather, they are used to point to God for all the goodness He bestows upon us.
Though gifts may overlap, your unique gift should be used to share the gospel of Christ. You many ask: “How do I accomplish that task? Am I required to go door-to-door and quote scripture to unbelievers?” Not unless your gift involves communicating well with others and comfortably interacting with strangers.
Perhaps your gift goes in a different direction than communication skills. Perhaps yours is in teaching, crafting, mechanics, sports, or business? Depending on what you gift is, do you know how you would share it all to God’s glory? The answer really is quite simple.
Your actions of simply being honest in transactions with others, putting their needs above selfish gain, and/or letting them know you believe God gave you your talents, are all ways to bring glory to God. After all, Jesus told us to “Love your neighbor as yourself.” This means sharing your gifts with others, and it’s the Holy Spirit that encourages us to take this step.
The Spirit of God encourages us to do good.
1 Corinthians 12:1-12 Now about the gifts of the Spirit, brothers and sisters, I do not want you to be uninformed. You know that when you were pagans, somehow or other you were influenced and led astray to mute idols. Therefore I want you to know that no one who is speaking by the Spirit of God says, “Jesus be cursed,” and no one can say, “Jesus is Lord,” except by the Holy Spirit.
We are all unique with special gifts given by the Spirit to glorify God.
There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit distributes them. There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord. There are different kinds of working, but in all of them and in everyone it is the same God at work. Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good.
The Spirit distributes a variety of gifts among believers.
To one there is given through the Spirit a message of wisdom, to another a message of knowledge by means of the same Spirit, to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by that one Spirit, to another miraculous powers, to another prophecy, to another distinguishing between spirits, to another speaking in different kinds of tongues, and to still another the interpretation of tongues.
The Spirit choses how gifts will be given, all to unify the body of Christ.
All these are the work of one and the same Spirit, and he distributes them to each one, just as he determines. Just as a body, though one, has many parts, but all its many parts form one body, so it is with Christ.
Are you wondering if you have a special gift from the Holy Spirit? The answer is: Yes, you do if you are a believer!
If you are not yet a believer in the gift of our Lord and savior Jesus Christ, go ahead and invite Him into your life right now. You will receive the power that faith offers and come to know your gift in the kingdom of God.
Pray this sinner’s prayer found at Gotquestions.com:
“God, I know that I am a sinner. I know that I deserve the consequences of my sin. However, I am trusting in Jesus Christ as my Savior. I believe that His death and resurrection provided for my forgiveness. I trust in Jesus and Jesus alone as my personal Lord and Savior. Thank you Lord, for saving me and forgiving me! Amen!”
