Thank-You, LORD, For Another Season On Earth!

November–another great month to remember and acknowledge God for all that He is!

As the holiday fast approaches, now is an appropriate time to reflect on God, just as the pilgrims reflected on Him when they celebrated their first Thanksgiving. It’s a perfect time to be thankful for the promises God made to us, to be thankful for His protection, to be thankful for the gift of Jesus.

Let’s acknowledge we believe God is the good supplier of all our needs!

1 Chronicles 16:34 Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his love endures forever.

“Give thanks to the Lord” and “his love endures forever” are two phrases used quite often in the Bible.

1 Chronicles 16:39-41 David left Zadok the priest and his fellow priests before the tabernacle of the LORD at the high place in Gibeon to present burnt offerings to the LORD on the altar of burnt offering regularly, morning and evening, in accordance with everything written in the Law of the LORD, which he had given Israel. With them were Heman and Jeduthun and the rest of those chosen and designated by name to give thanks to the LORD, “for his love endures forever.”

2 Chronicles 20:21 After consulting the people, Jehoshaphat appointed men to sing to the LORD and to praise him for the splendor of his holiness as they went out at the head of the army, saying: “Give thanks to the LORD, for his love endures forever.”

Psalm 106:1 Praise the LORD. Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good; his love endures forever.

Psalm 107:1 Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good; his love endures forever.

Jeremiah 33:10-11“This is what the LORD says: ‘You say about this place, “It is a desolate waste, without people or animals.” Yet in the towns of Judah and the streets of Jerusalem that are deserted, inhabited by neither people nor animals, there will be heard once more the sounds of joy and gladness, the voices of bride and bridegroom, and the voices of those who bring thank offerings to the house of the LORD, saying, “Give thanks to the LORD Almighty, for the LORD is good; his love endures forever.” For I will restore the fortunes of the land as they were before,’ says the LORD.

The Bible also affirms stories of true thanks to God:

Red Sea Exodus Song Of Thankfulness

––– After God swallowed over six-hundred of Pharaoh’s chariots, along with officers, horsemen and troops during the exodus through the Red Sea, Moses and the Israelites sang a song of thanks to God.

Exodus 15:1-3 Then Moses and the Israelites sang this song to the LORD: “I will sing to the LORD, for he is highly exalted. Both horse and driver he has hurled into the sea.”The LORD is my strength and my defense; he has become my salvation. He is my God, and I will praise him, my father’s God, and I will exalt him. The LORD is a warrior; the LORD is his name.

The Thankfulness of Jehoshaphat

––– The Moabites, Ammonites and some of the Meunites were coming to attack Jehoshaphat. Jehoshaphat ordered Judah to fast as he sought help from the LORD. God took on the battle for Jehoshaphat, having the enemies fight amongst themselves, giving Jehoshaphat victory with no casualties, and plunder to spare.

2 Chronicles 20:21 After consulting the people, Jehoshaphat appointed men to sing to the LORD and to praise him for the splendor of his holiness as they went out at the head of the army, saying: “Give thanks to the LORD, for his love endures forever.”

One Thankful Leper

––– On the road to Jerusalem, ten men with leprosy saw Jesus at a distance. They called to Jesus asking for pity and instantly Jesus healed them.

Luke 17:14-17 When he saw them, he said, “Go, show yourselves to the priests.” And as they went, they were cleansed. One of them, when he saw he was healed, came back, praising God in a loud voice. He threw himself at Jesus’ feet and thanked him—and he was a Samaritan. Jesus asked, “Were not all ten cleansed? Where are the other nine?

All these stories are examples of thankfulness to God during difficult situations. And by being thankful, trusting and speaking to God, we grow our relationship with Him. Each time we acknowledge HIM as the one who gets us through, our connection with Him deepens . Thus, it is good to continually follow the example of the Bible and thank the LORD–For The LORD Is Good!

Thanking God doesn’t  apply to only the good things that happen in life.

1 Thessalonians 5:18  Paul says, “give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus“.

God has a perfect plan for each of us. We need to give thanks that His presence resides in us regardless that we feel our circumstance is incorrect. Thankfulness given in good and bad circumstances opens our minds to discover the good He accomplishes through the bad.

Psalm 100:4-5 Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise his name. For the LORD is good and his love endures forever; his faithfulness continues through all generations.
