God isn’t big because He takes up more space than us. God is big because He is more than us. And when we read His word we become blessed with knowledge of His vastness. A vastness so deep and so wide, many writers of the Bible–including prophets, king David, and Moses–have written about God yet I believe they really can’t explain it to us in human terms.
God is so much more than can be explained or understood. Creation, humankind, sin, mercy, and grace are just a few of His immeasurable traits. God is involved in every aspect of life, even in the lives of those who chose not to believe–because God is life!
And not only does God create life, God holds all things together.
Hebrews 1:3a The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word.
The fact that God does hold all things together, is one of the reasons mankind must live by faith. God’s power is too intricate to detect all His works, too perplexing to understand by human standards, too elaborate to dissect logically, and too constant for one mere man to comprehend during a single lifetime.
God Is Intricate
Jeremiah 29:11 For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.
Were you ever disappointed because something you wanted didn’t happen, only to find something even more wonderful came along? God’s intricate plan includes things we enjoy in life, but it also includes Him allowing us to make bad choices. Choices He knows are for our betterment, to help us learn and grow closer to Him. To draw us nearer to Himself.
God Is Perplexing
God created out of nothing and by faith, not material proof, we are to believe the first chapter of Genesis.
Genesis In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters. And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light.
I like to consider myself an artist, however, in order to create, I need “stuff.” Paint, tile, rulers, wood, photographs, perhaps just a piece of paper and a pencil. Mankind can not create anything without the use of something that is already created. Even scientific cloning requires the use of some part of the article that is to be cloned. Only through God’s perplexing manner (as humans understand it), did He take the abyss (which He also created!) and create within it.
God Is Elaborate
e·lab·o·rate adjective: involving many carefully arranged parts or details; detailed and complicated in design and planning.
God’s elaborateness is found true in the over 300 prophesies of Jesus Christ. Working within God’s design and planning, prophets of the Old Testament foretold Jesus’ ancestry, birth, life and death. They also proclaimed why it was necessary for Jesus to come. Just as any loving earthly father carefully executes with detail a plan of providing for his earthly family, God created an elaborate plan for our lives through His son Jesus Christ, to be full of joy and hope.
God Is Constant
God’s bold vastness continually expands because He is constant.
Mankind, on the other hand, is not constant. We live in our selfish world. We do not love everyone. We do not forgive everyone who asks. And we do not accept everyone who approaches us just as they are.
Only God constantly loves us. Only God forgives sin each and every time we ask. And only God accepts us all while fully aware of–our flaws, our weaknesses, and our sinful nature.
If you haven’t done so yet today, take a moment and thank our BIG God for the constant love He showers upon you. Thank Him for His constant mercy and grace which He freely gives. And thank Him, though His workings and plans are too vast for us to fully understand, for His constant presence in your life.
