October 3—Bring Your Bible To School Day!

How fantastic is this?

The event, started by Focus on the Family in 2014,  is growing in popularity.  With every state in the nation involved, 8,000 students participated in 2014, 155,000 in 2015 and 356,000 in 2016. In 2017 almost 500,000 students participated and 2018 surpassed even that!

Bring Your Bible To School Day started as a response to America’s schools continuing efforts to forbid the meetings of Christian groups, reading Bibles, saying prayers, kneeling for God at football games, and even acknowledging Jesus in the classroom.

On October 3, Bring Your Bible To School Day is an event—a social activity—that all Christian students may openly partake in.

But bringing Bibles to school was not always acknowledged as a freedom. In 1962 and 1963, the U.S Supreme Court declared Bible readings in public schools to be unconstitutional—and took Bibles out of the schools.

Thankfully, that declaration was noted as wrong. Christian Americans have the right to all freedoms. Trendy site, Days Of The Year, states:

“Their [Focus on the Family] main focus is to have students not feel afraid to express themselves and read the Bible during their free time. However, if things turn for the worst for students in public schools, Focus on the Family encourages families to contact the Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF), a legal alliance of Christian attorneys to defend the right to freely live out their faith as well as check out school policies and codes of conduct in their school district.”

Christian students too often are directed to keep their voices quiet in schools when it comes to referencing Jesus. Perhaps this occurs because many points in the academic world differ from Christian world views, such as creation and the belief in One God.  Whatever the reasons, Bring Your Bible To School Day invites Christian students to be God’s light in their schools!

The Bible offers many stories of young people living their faith.

David

A prefect example of a young person demonstrating their faith is David. At approximately seventeen years of age, David volunteered to fight for God against the evil Philistine giant, Goliath.

1 Samuel 17:45 David said to the Philistine, “You come against me with sword and spear and javelin, but I come against you in the name of the LORD Almighty, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied.

Despite David’s age, he alone had the courage to run “quickly to the battle line”,  because David knew God was always with him. I encourage young Christians to do the same on October 3.  Face the “norms” of everyday school, just as David faced Goliath. Instead of keeping your love of Christ to yourself, share with others that the Lord is here for everyone.

Revelation 3:20-21 Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with that person, and they with me. To the one who is victorious, I will give the right to sit with me on my throne, just as I was victorious and sat down with my Father on his throne.

Joshua

Also a young man of faith in God, Joshua was Moses’ aide.  Joshua had confidence God would deliver the new promised land to Abraham’s descendants, which God eventually did. And Joshua became a great leader for Israel.

Joshua 1:16 Then they answered Joshua, “Whatever you have commanded us we will do, and wherever you send us we will go.

Mary

While still a teen, Mary was told by an angel that she would give birth to a son. Knowing she was a virgin, Mary questioned how this event could occur. After being told that no word from God will ever fail, Mary was eager to obey.

Luke 1:38 “I am the Lord’s servant,” Mary answered. “May your word to me be fulfilled.” Then the angel left her.

God uses all kinds of people to accomplish His purpose and expand His kingdom.

Young people, you can make the difference in your classmates eternity by expanding God’s kingdom in your school. You can allow them to see the works of Christ through you.

Jesus has much faith that you can fulfill His plan.

1 Timothy 4:12 Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith and in purity.

Government schools cannot censor students from engaging in voluntary, free speech (written or verbal) regarding their deeply held religious beliefs.

3 Specific opportunities to read your Bibles with friends at school:

  1. In a free period
  2. Before school in homeroom
  3. During the lunch period

As long as your personal or group reading does not interrupt class or cause a disruption to any academic instruction, dear Christian students, you have the right to publicly read your Bible at school!

Watch this personal invitation from football quarterback for the New Orleans Saints, Drew Brees:

Parents, I encourage you to remember October 3 and share this information with your kids! They have the perfect opportunity to bring the light of Jesus to others and— Bring Your Bible To School Day!

  1. Amen Debra! We need the Bible in the schools big time! I am sick and tired of the wicked liberal agenda! It’s not okay for us to talk about Jesus in the schools, yet they work their hardest at justifying their sins and demanding that everyone agree with them and submit to them regarding what they want taught in the schools. Hypocrites! They love to promote that gay agenda and it is 100% okay for them to talk about that immoral filth in the schools and now they are even pushing pedophilia! Does their depravity know no end?!

I pray the Lord has mercy on our country and I pray He smites the wicked liberal agenda with their hate for God and their love for sin. I will never bow to their demands for immorality and socialism in our country! I will preach about Jesus anywhere I want to and I will read my Bible anywhere I want to! If they think they are going to take this country without a fight, they are sadly mistaken. They want to take our freedoms, our borders, and our sovereignty and turn us into a chaotic mess like Venezuela. I pray God opens their minds and hearts to the truth and they come to Jesus before it’s too late! I truly believe we might just see another Civil War before this is all over and I am willing to fight and die in that war if necessary. They are not ever going to be telling me how it is regarding my faith and morals, and they are not ever going to be taking my guns either. God bless!

    • Thank you, Ryan, for your heartfelt opinion on this post. Yes, I too believe the left is taking away any Christian freedom that they can, yet seem to have no problem adjusting time schedules, and even clothing restrictions so as not to offend other religions. I pray continually for evangelical revival and for those in authority to see clear to protect the rights of Christians in America.
