Society spends boundless time, energy, and money trying to find “the answer” to living the ever unattainable utopian lifestyle. Social Media, television, and those magazines at the grocery store check-out line all try to suggest what will make our lives complete. Their suggestions usually include:

Eating healthy foods
Exercise
Organizational and time saving tips
Books on mental health
Balance family and work
_________________ (You fill in the blank.)

In truth we need only turn to the One source who created us. Jesus—the source of all we need!

The apostle Paul tells us in Philippians and Corinthians:

Philippians 4:19 And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus.

2 Corinthians 9:8 And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work.

Paul often tells us in the Bible that the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit live in us. And these three members of the Trinity offer the true answer to living a life of holy love.

Ephesians 3:14-19 For this reason I [Paul] kneel before the Father, from whom every family in heaven and on earth derives its name. I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.

Paul wrote his letter to the Ephesians approximately 60 A.D., nearly 30 years after he became a Christian. This was all part of the mission he was entrusted with after meeting the resurrected Jesus on the road to Damascus—to spread the Gospel of Jesus to all the world.

Though born a Roman citizen, Paul grew up to be an educated Pharisee. At the time he met Jesus Paul was actually carrying permission papers from the high priest to allow him to seize all Christians he could find and put them in prison. At this point in Paul’s life, he believed his utopian life meant persecuting Christians!

Because of Jesus, Paul’s attitude changed.

Paul’s conversion to Christianity brought him out of darkness and into the light. Paul listened to God and turned his life over to Jesus. God then sent Paul to share his experience with others so that he could then lead them also to Christ.

Paul’s life changed, because the minute he became a believer in Christ, the Holy Spirit came to live in his heart. The Holy Spirit encourages us to follow Jesus’ example of holy love and to offer it to others, so that they too, like Paul, may become believers of Christ. The nanosecond we believe in Christ, His power resides within us.

I encourage you to turn from Social Media, television, and those magazines at the grocery store check-out line that fraudulently suggest they know how to make your life complete. As Paul found out, Jesus is the only answer to a complete life. Jesus is the only answer to a life of love.

At the time Paul wrote his letter to the Ephesians, he was under house arrest in Rome. But because of his trust in Jesus, Paul’s love continually overflowed to those around him, including those against him.

Paul believed in the the Good News that Jesus willingly gave His life for our sin, then rose from the dead to sit at the right hand of the Father. Paul’s Ephesians letter, written as a circular to be shared with local churches, was directed to strengthen Christian faith and remind them of who they are in Christ.

Ephesians 4:1-6 As a prisoner for the Lord, then, I urge you to live a life worthy of the calling you have received. Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love. Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace. There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called to one hope when you were called; one Lord, one faith, one baptism; one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all.
