When we invite Jesus into our lives, the Bible tells us we are to put Him first. Above all else we are to offer Him all our love in word and in deed.

Deuteronomy 6:5 Love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength.

So, how do you offer Jesus love?

Do you humbly love Him by sitting obediently at Jesus’ feet? That was one of the ways Mary, sister of Martha and Lazarus, showed her love.

Luke 10:38-42 As Jesus and his disciples were on their way, he came to a village where a woman named Martha opened her home to him. She had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord’s feet listening to what he said.

But Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made. She came to him and asked, “Lord, don’t you care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself? Tell her to help me!”

“Martha, Martha,” the Lord answered, “you are worried and upset about many things, but few things are needed—or indeed only one. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.”

Or, do you recklessly love Him by taking power over what you believe to be yours, only to later return to The Father because of you sinfully lost everything?

That is what the story of The Prodigal Son describes. The son took his inheritance from his father early, squandered it, then returned to his father hoping to be taken back.

And what, to the surprise of the prodigal son, did the abandoned father do?

Luke 15:22-24 “But the father said to his servants, ‘Quick! Bring the best robe and put it on him. Put a ring on his finger and sandals on his feet. Bring the fattened calf and kill it. Let’s have a feast and celebrate. For this son of mine was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.’ So they began to celebrate.

The father celebrated his son’s return. He loved on, immensely loved on, his son when he returned home. And thankfully remember—that is exactly how Jesus interacts with us, no matter how we show our love.

Jesus loves on us, He immensely loves on us equally!

No matter if our actions are a reflection of Mary and we humbly sit at His feet — or — if we reckless sin then return to Jesus hoping He will love us back.

The good news tells us Jesus always loves us back.

1 John 4-7 Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God.
