Not unusual for Hollywood, the Emmy Awards this week applauded one if its hosts, Michael Che, telling the audience that his mother was not watching the show —“She says she doesn’t like watching white award shows because you guys don’t thank Jesus enough. That’s true. The only white people that thank Jesus are Republicans and ex-crackheads.”
Hmmmm, assuming Mrs. Che is a Christian, because Michael did say she wants Jesus to be thanked more, I wonder if Mrs. Che enjoyed her son’s joke at Christian’s expense?
I did not watch the show, but not for Mrs. Che’s reasons. I haven’t watched it since the 90s. However, I did view Micheal Che’s segment on social media and on TV.
Why aren’t more Christians fed-up/annoyed/irritated with Hollywood?
Yes, there was mention Christians were ridiculed again on The Christian Post. And the incident was shared in more depth on Faithwire with writer, Will Maule , posting viewer’s outraged tweets. I am thankful these articles brought some attention to the incident, but are they enough to make a change for Jesus?.
Christians need to speak louder—Christians claim your identity.
Let’s remember explicit passages in the Bible. One example in the Old Testament includes the Exiles. After wandering forty years in the desert, God prepared Joshua to lead a new generation into the land He promised to them. God encourages Joshua to go forth, be strong, and importantly to have no fear because God is with him.
Joshua 1:9 Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go.”
To acknowledge Jesus in the New Testament, Peter and John spoke about the power of Christ before the Sanhedrin while they were imprisoned. After threats that they should never speak in the name of Jesus again, Peter and John were released. But what did they do next? Did they heed the leaders warning? No!
They asked God for power to do MORE in His name.
Acts 4:29 Now, Lord, consider their threats and enable your servants to speak your word with great boldness. Stretch out your hand to heal and perform signs and wonders through the name of your holy servant Jesus.”
And in a letter from the apostle Paul ( believed to be the writer of thirteen books in the NT) to Timothy, Paul directs Timothy to remember the gifts he received from God; use them to bring the light of God to others.
2 Timothy 1:6-7 For this reason I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands, for God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.
When Paul wrote to the Christians in Philippi, he had been incarcerated two years for speaking out that salvation comes only though Jesus. One would think, at some point, Paul would have given in to his verbal and physical beatings from non-believers—but not Paul!
As an example all Christians should follow, Paul diligently continued to follow the teachings of Jesus when He said “go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,”
Paul, knowing all that Jesus spoke, taught, and lived to be true, never allowed others to extract from him the Good News of Jesus Christ.
Philippians 1:20-21 I eagerly expect and hope that I will in no way be ashamed, but will have sufficient courage so that now as always Christ will be exalted in my body, whether by life or by death. For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain.
Believers, please don’t let the world drain the life of Christ out of you. Stand up for your faith in Jesus. Let your faith be know to others. You know Jesus is our only hope in eternal life. And by speaking, teaching, and living life for Jesus, we shine His light on others so they may also believe. Blessings!
If the lost never know there are MANY surrounding them who themselves have already received the light of Christ, how then, can they come to see and know Christ died for them as well?
Christians, claim your identity, so that others may know Christ.
