Doing Your Own Thing

God created us.

We are God’s creation!

So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them. Genesis 1:27

We are blessed to be created in the image of our heavenly Father. This does not mean we have God’s curly brown hair or His wide set eyes, like an earthly child resembles his earthly father. We can not have God’s features because God does not have a body.

So God created mankind in his own image,”  means God created us with some of His characteristics. True, God demonstrates many characteristics that are unattainable to humans. He is omniscient (all knowing) Psalm 139:2-6, omnipotent (all powerful) Luke 18:27, and omnipresent (present everywhere) Psalm 139: 7-12.

Here are some of the characteristics God does share with mankind.  And he [God] passed in front of Moses proclaiming, “The LORD, the LORD, the compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness,”Exodus 34:6.  If we choose to use these characteristics, they will make our lives more enjoyable.

It’s true we all have certain quirks. Perhaps you prefer a pink and white standard poodle over an all white standard poodle. Particular traits add to personal individuality. But God does not want our individuality to over shadow the character He gave to us. God does not force his character upon us, but The Word tells us we have it within us.

It is our choice to use it in our lifetime here on earth. And when we use it for the good, we please God. However, God does not want us all to be cookie cutter images of each other either.

We are each individually made. When we put our own style on the tasks at hand, life is more enjoyable, but remember life is not about us. God creates, instructs, entrusts, and delights in us, as we complete our works according to His plan. We are here to serve God, in the image of His character traits. As long as we remember that, a pink standard poodle doesn’t matter.
