7 Verses To Pray For America

“The awful calamity of civil war, which now desolates the land, may be but a punishment inflicted upon us for our presumptuous sins…

We have forgotten God. We have forgotten the gracious Hand which preserved us in peace, and multiplied and enriched and strengthened us; and we have vainly imagined, in the deceitfulness of our hearts, that all these blessings were produced by some superior wisdom and virtue of our own.

Intoxicated with unbroken success, we have become too self-sufficient to feel the necessity of redeeming and preserving grace, too proud to pray to the God that made us!

It behooves us then to humble ourselves before the offended Power, to confess our national sins and to pray for clemency and forgiveness.” – President Abraham Lincoln, 1863

When President Abraham Lincoln spoke these words 161 years ago America was suffering. It was north against south and brother against brother as uncertainty loomed over a splitting nation. One could say the same thing is happening in America today.

However, a specific thing that happened in Washington D.C. at that time in history was Christian leadership. Concerning the Bible, Lincoln had this to say: “In regard to this Great book, I have but to say, it is the best gift God has given to man. All the good the Savior gave to the world was communicated through this book.”

Fast-forward to today’s Washington leadership and there is Christian silence. The Oval office does not call for national confession, humility or the need for national redemption. Their silence is deafening. But, America’s Christians can overcome that silence with God’s word.

Just as President Lincoln called on his generations to come before God and confess their sin–confess their need for His authority–today’s generations can do the same. We can use God’s word to pray over America.

Ask for God’s forgiveness, that He heal our land and prevent evil from destroying more of our livelihoods, our families, freedoms, savings…our rights. Pray that all evil leadership is exposed, acknowledged, and removed. That new leadership, which professes the power of God, be voted into place and America becomes strong again.

President Lincoln, in order to save America, confessed America forgot God. He then suggested its citizens confess sin and ask for clemency. He wanted to America to be re-aligned with God.

President Tr**p also believes in the sovereign authority of God, and desires to keep God in America.

President Tr**p said, “In America we don’t worship government, we worship God.” … “God is the ultimate.” … “God saved me.” … “I had God on my side.” … “But no one will be touching the cross of Christ under the Trump administration, I swear to you.”

Let’s align America, again, with the Christian values she was born in. There are many verses in the Bible that can be used for national instructions. Here are seven chosen for us to humble ourselves in prayer to our Mighty Creator, confess our sin then ask His forgiveness, all the while believing His word is true.

Pray for those in authority:

1 TIMOTHY 2:1-2 I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people—for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness.

Proclaim God is always with us:

DEUTERONOMY 31:6 Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the LORD your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you."

Understand God is our protection:

ISAIAH 54:17 ...no weapon forged against you will prevail, and you will refute every tongue that accuses you. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD, and this is their vindication from me,"
declares the LORD.

Follow God’s given instructions:

JEREMIAH 7:5-7 If you really change your ways and your actions and deal with each other justly, if you do not oppress the foreigner, the fatherless or the widow and do not shed innocent blood in this place, and if you do not follow other gods to your own harm, then I will let you live in this place, in the land I gave your ancestors for ever and ever.

Do not fear:

ISAIAH 41:10-13 So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. "All who rage against you will surely be ashamed and disgraced; those who oppose you will be as nothing and perish. Though you search for your enemies, you will not find them. Those who wage war against you will be as nothing at all. For I am the LORD your God who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, Do not fear; I will help you.

Believe He told us He will forgive and heal:

2 Chronicles 7:14 ...if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.

Thank God His word is true:

2 Samuel 22:1-4 David sang to the LORD the words of this song when the LORD delivered him from the hand of all his enemies and from the hand of Saul. He said: "The LORD is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield and the horn of my salvation. He is my stronghold, my refuge and my savior— from violent people you save me. "I called to the LORD, who is worthy of praise, and have been saved from my enemies.

Please keep on praying. Thank God for His goodness, acknowledging His authority over all in America.

As a Christian, know who on the ballot is a protector of our values before you cast your vote. You may not like all things about a candidate (I don’t like all things about my spouse and vise-a-versa), so make your choice for who has already fought for Christian values, not for those who have fought to destroy them.

ARE YOU A FOLLOWER OF JESUS?

Have you invited Jesus into your heart? Now is the perfect time. Pray this sinner’s prayer found at Gotquestions.com

“God, I know that I am a sinner. I know that I deserve the consequences of my sin. However, I am trusting in Jesus Christ as my Savior. I believe that His death and resurrection provided for my forgiveness. I trust in Jesus and Jesus alone as my personal Lord and Savior. Thank you Lord, for saving me and forgiving me! Amen.”

Blessings to you as you receive redemption through Jesus.
