“So, here’s the deal. . . I am very intentional about speaking affirmative Scripturally-based statements over my boys. Most of the time, as soon as I start in on the liturgy of “You are. . .” statements, they frantically lift their hands up over their ears as if to say, “Mom, enough already, we hear this every day! Well, of course, I demand that they take their hands down from over their ears and listen intently as I tell them who they are in Christ and who they are becoming as men who will live in a way that is honoring to Him.” – Priscilla Shirer, Going Beyond Ministries
America, though we were born with deep devotion to God, we have slowly drifted from surrounding ourselves with Him and His Word.
President George Washington once stated, “It is the duty of all nations to acknowledge the providence of Almighty God, to obey His will, to be grateful for His benefits, and humbly to implore His protection and favor.” However strong our love of God once was, this profound statement from Washington falls way short in American society today.
If America is to return to God, imploring God’s protection and favor over our children by His word is a great place to start. Priscilla Shirer, preacher and author, is a strong advocate for praying over our children. It is something she does in her own home.
Though the Bible is filled with verses to cover our children, below is a list of my selected five:
John 3:16-17 Confirms to the child that as a believer, they have salvation through Jesus.
JOHN 3:16-17 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.
Romans 12:2 encourages children to not follow the ills of society. They should allow themselves to follow God in order to better understand Him.
ROMANS 12:2 Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.
Ephesians 6:11 is for protection against evil.
EPHESIANS 6:11-13 Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil's schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand.
Ephesians 6:1-3, is included for us parents and grandparents! However, it also benefits the kids. It is the fifth commandment and it comes with a promise: life to those who obey it.
EPHESIANS 6:1-3 Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. "Honor your father and mother"—which is the first commandment with a promise—"so that it may go well with you and that you may enjoy long life on the earth."
Psalm 34:7 proclaims Jesus is always with them.
PSALM 34:7 The angel of the LORD encamps around those who fear him, and he delivers them.
America, that we may grow closer to God as a nation – implore His protection and favor – pray daily over your children and grandchildren that they may, “live in a way that is honoring to Him.“
ARE YOU A FOLLOWER OF JESUS?
Have you invited Jesus into your heart? Now is the perfect time. Pray this sinner’s prayer found at Gotquestions.com.
“God, I know that I am a sinner. I know that I deserve the consequences of my sin. However, I am trusting in Jesus Christ as my Savior. I believe that His death and resurrection provided for my forgiveness. I trust in Jesus and Jesus alone as my personal Lord and Savior. Thank you Lord, for saving me and forgiving me! Amen.”
Blessings to you as you receive redemption through Jesus.
