How To React Is A Choice

“Life is 10% what happens to you and 90% how you react to it.”

Pastor Charles R. Swindoll, Insight For Living

We’ve all been in the position where an instant reaction can expose our core sensibility. Something annoying, rude, or aggravating is bound to happen today, tomorrow, because that’s life.

We need to be prepared.

Positive reactions to negative situations indicate we have patience for others and fortitude in adversity, as God instructs. Negative reactions may suggest we need to sign up for anger management class.

Imagine:

  • Your 16 year old new driver tells you about a new dent in the family car’s fender.
  • The fourth prompt on the insurance company’s answering machine switches you to the wrong person, again.
  • After waiting to be waited on, the food your family ordered now arrives cold.

And that short list, those three events, could all actually happen in one day! The same day your husband tells you he forgot to schedule a plumber and your mother calls saying she needs her prescription filled, now!

How does one handle a day like that?

The Bible instructs us to be, “slow to speak and slow to become angry.” That could be hard to follow after many stressful circumstances in an row, unless – one prepares in advance.

When Bible reading is a daily occurrence it strengthens our minds ands hearts. Studying God’s word everyday helps us remember His truths. They become imbedded in us, part of us. And it’s those truths that prepare us to be kind and endure under unexpected, chaotic circumstances.

If we daily practice God’s truth telling us, “get rid of all moral filth and the evil that is so prevalent,” we prepare ourselves through little annoyances. We prepare/strengthen ourselves daily, against evil. The word will be planted in our mind and hearts, making us ready to remain steady in future bad days, bad days we know will happen – because that’s life.

JAMES 1:19-21 My dear brothers and sisters, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry, because human anger does not produce the righteousness that God desires. Therefore, get rid of all moral filth and the evil that is so prevalent and humbly accept the word planted in you, which can save you.

ARE YOU A FOLLOWER OF JESUS?

Have you invited Jesus into your heart? Now is the perfect time. Pray this sinner’s prayer found at Gotquestions.com

“God, I know that I am a sinner. I know that I deserve the consequences of my sin. However, I am trusting in Jesus Christ as my Savior. I believe that His death and resurrection provided for my forgiveness. I trust in Jesus and Jesus alone as my personal Lord and Savior. Thank you Lord, for saving me and forgiving me! Amen.”

Blessings to you as you receive redemption through Jesus.

  1. Wow, had to look it up, and yes Chuck is still alive, still working for The Kingdom I presume.

Your posts are very triggering for me. Why do I follow you? Because I refuse to surround myself with people I completely or mostly agree with. And we agree on enough to make it worth it. Not intending to put you to the test on how you will react, but I do have to tell the truth. I blame autism for that.
