“Roman crucifixion was a cruel punishment. Nailed to a wooden cross by wrists and feet, it was an excruciating, slow and very public way to die. The victim’s groaning becomes a morning’s entertainment for onlookers. Seeing the horrors of crucifixion was an effective deterrent for wrong-doers. For Jesus, this heinous death was undeserved. As he gave his life, he looked beyond it to God’s bigger story of salvation that was being played out through his life and death.”
– Randy Frazee, The Story (2011)
Some doubt God sent Jesus to proclaim the “bigger story of salvation” for the world. They can’t believe Jesus is God and man. They want more evidence of supernatural powers than what is written in an ancient book written more than two thousand years ago. A common statement, “If Jesus really is God, preform some miracles today?”
We trust, believe, in the unknown everyday.
Funny how one chooses to play the game of chance with their eternal salvation, yet have no problem trusting unknown individuals who build the airplanes they fly on. Or trusting pharmacists to dispatch prescription drugs. Or, trusting the doctor who prescribed that drug that it is the correct choice for your ailment.
In society, through situations like those, we trust – believe – a variety of unknown individuals with our lives everyday. Lives that are short lived (average world life expectancy is 76.2 years) in comparison to eternity (FOREVER)! We trust chefs and waitstaff will not serve contaminated food. We believe bus drivers will pick-up and deliver our children safely to school. We believe in the unknown all day long.
Yet, Jesus is not an unknown. The Bible not only foretold the coming of Jesus, it details stories of His birth, life and death – with witnesses. Also, other books from history confirm the existence of Jesus.
A core tenant of Christianity is believing by faith that Jesus came, is and taught of God, was crucified for all sin, then rose from the grave on the third day after His crucifixion.
Jesus had to come and die for mankind, because all sin and fall short of the glory of God. No one, on their own merit, is ever good enough to enter heaven. So Jesus came to earth as the final sacrifice for sin. He willingly died a horrific death on the cross, for us, so that all who believe in Him will have eternal life.
His story is documented.
Read the Bible. Study God’s word for yourself. Find out what others saw with their own eyes, the miracles Jesus preformed here on earth, the words He spoke. Don’t play the game of chance with your eternal salvation. Believe!
1 CORINTHIANS 15:1-8 Now, brothers and sisters, I want to remind you of the gospel I preached to you, which you received and on which you have taken your stand. By this gospel you are saved, if you hold firmly to the word I preached to you. Otherwise, you have believed in vain. For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures, and that he appeared to Cephas, and then to the Twelve. After that, he appeared to more than five hundred of the brothers and sisters at the same time, most of whom are still living, though some have fallen asleep. Then he appeared to James, then to all the apostles, and last of all he appeared to me also, as to one abnormally born.
ARE YOU A FOLLOWER OF JESUS?
Have you invited Jesus into your heart? Now is the perfect time. Pray this sinner’s prayer found at Gotquestions.com
“God, I know that I am a sinner. I know that I deserve the consequences of my sin. However, I am trusting in Jesus Christ as my Savior. I believe that His death and resurrection provided for my forgiveness. I trust in Jesus and Jesus alone as my personal Lord and Savior. Thank you Lord, for saving me and forgiving me! Amen.”
Blessings to you as you receive redemption through Jesus.
