“‘But, Lord…’ is an oxymoron, isn’t it? It’s a contradiction in terms, because if Jesus is Lord, then we say, ‘Yes, Sir,’ not, ‘But, Lord.'”
– Anne Graham Lotz, Why? Trusting God When You Don’t Understand (2004)
An oxymoron is defined as a contradiction in terms. Those two words together, “But, Lord,” make no sense because but signifies we believe there could be another outcome. Perhaps, we believe, there is something better out there for us than what is happening right now?
Perhaps, we believe, something the Lord of all creation doesn’t fully comprehend for us?
Nonsense to those beliefs! The apostle Peter explains:
Acts 10:36-40 You know the message God sent to the people of Israel, announcing the good news of peace through Jesus Christ, who is Lord of all.
You know what has happened throughout the province of Judea, beginning in Galilee after the baptism that John preached how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and power, and how he went around doing good and healing all who were under the power of the devil, because God was with him.
"We are witnesses of everything he did in the country of the Jews and in Jerusalem. They killed him by hanging him on a cross, but God raised him from the dead on the third day and caused him to be seen.
Unless any of us, me included, can raise ourselves after three days of death, we are delusional to believe our plan is better than Jesus our Lord’s.
Yes, Sir!
ARE YOU A FOLLOWER OF JESUS?
Have you invited Jesus into your heart? Now is the perfect time. Pray this sinner’s prayer found at Gotquestions.com.
“God, I know that I am a sinner. I know that I deserve the consequences of my sin. However, I am trusting in Jesus Christ as my Savior. I believe that His death and resurrection provided for my forgiveness. I trust in Jesus and Jesus alone as my personal Lord and Savior. Thank you Lord, for saving me and forgiving me! Amen.”
Blessings to you as you receive redemption through Jesus.
