America, we are loosing sight of Jesus. We are loosing sight of the way, the truth and the light; the only one able to walk us through the suffering our citizens are currently enduring. The only one who truly knows suffering because He alone suffered all pain before us.
There are three basic categories of suffering: emotional, physical, and spiritual–each causing unbearable pain to the human heart, body, and spirit.
Thankfully, because of Jesus, our country has the choice to not have to endure hardships alone. We have the choice to be blessed with the savior of the world’s authority. We have the choice because Jesus took on our burden of suffering at the cross, and all He asks in return is that we believe in what He did for us.
Two thousand years ago Jesus came to show us how to endure suffering. Jesus, who loves us so deeply, came to die in our place all so that we may have an eternal relationship with Him. Jesus is our Savior–believe in what He did and we will be saved.
1 Peter 2:22-24 “He committed no sin, and no deceit was found in his mouth.” When they hurled their insults at him, he did not retaliate; when he suffered, he made no threats. Instead, he entrusted himself to him who judges justly. “He himself bore our sins” in his body on the cross, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; “by his wounds you have been healed.”
For no sin of His own, Jesus suffered emotionally, physically, and spiritually on the cross. He bore the emotional heartache of insults and being spit upon from crowds that once followed and adored Him. His bodily pain at the cruxifixction included 39 lashes, punches, a crown of thorns, spikes in His hands and feet, then finally His physical body succumbing to severe blood loss and suffocation.
But the worst suffering of all, after the lashings and hanging three hours on the cross, the only time Jesus cried out was when He felt spiritual separation from the Father.
Mark 15:34 And at three in the afternoon Jesus cried out in a loud voice, “Eloi, Eloi, lema sabachthani?” (which means “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”).
It was in that moment of not being in the presence of God, not the absolute physical torture He was experiencing, that truly anguished Jesus.
…when Jesus died on the cross, all our sins—without exception—were transferred to Him. He was without sin, for He was God in human flesh. But as He died all our sins were placed on Him, and He became the final and complete sacrifice for our sins. And in that moment He was banished from the presence of God, for sin cannot exist in God’s presence. His cry speaks of this truth; He endured the separation from God that you and I deserve.

Jesus died for our sin as our substitute. He experienced the agony of separation from His Father when our sins were upon Him on the cross. It is the agony, I would image, one would feel if living eternally separated from love, from God, in hell.
Jesus did the hard work for us. He suffered and died in our place. He personally carried our sins to the cross so that we may never feel that agonizing separation from God. America, if we want help understanding and navigating suffering, if we don’t want to agonize in separation from God, then believe in the One who suffered for us.
Isaiah 53:5 But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed.
Pray for our government, our leaders, educational institutions, businesses, families, and even churches, that they refocus on Jesus, keeping Him in their sight, forever believing in the suffering He did for us, for America.
