God’s Creation – Genesis

Let’s face it, creation is a mystery to all of us. No one knows exactly how God formed/established the earth and massive solar system–but He did. He tells us in His word that He did. So as a believer in Christ and all that God is, I take Him at His word. Christians like myself look past the unknown parts of this complicated story and simply place our faith in His truth.

I don’t question how I can smile and talk into a small electronic device, then somehow my image and voice travel through air and appear on your screen. It’s not something most folks can easily explain, but it happens. For God, believers trust the history of His perfection that we read in the Bible. And in this history we find passages of God’s truth shared with His people.

So believers, called to live by faith, follow God’s truth in the Bible, which begins with the wonderful story of Creation in Genesis.

Genesis 1:1-2 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters.

I don’t know what a “formless” earth looks like, but I take God at His word. And in His perfect plan for us He systemically created a place for us to live and thrive.

God’s Creation In Genesis

Order of Creation

  1. Day One…….The earth was formless and dark, then God said, “Let there be light.” There was morning and night.
  2. Day Two…….God said, “Let there be a vault between the waters to separate water from water.” There was sky with water above and water was below.
  3. Day Three…..God said, ” Let the water under the sky be gathered to one place, and let the dry ground appear.” And God said, “Let the land produce vegetation:…” There was land, sea and vegetation.
  4. Day Four……..God said, “Let there be lights in the vault of the sky to separate the day from the night…” He also made the stars. There was sun, moon and stars.
  5. Day Five…….God said, “Let the water team with living creature, and let birds fly above the the earth across the vault of the sky.” There was fish and birds.
  6. Day Six………God said, “Let the land produce living creatures according to their kinds…” Then God said, “Let us make mankind in our image,…” There were animals, man and women.
  7. Day Seven….God rested.

Genesis 2:1-3 Thus the heavens and the earth were completed in their vast array. By the seventh day God had finished the work he had been doing; so on the seventh day he rested from all his work. Then God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it he rested from all the work of creating that he had done.

The Bible tells us God created the earth, including all that grows and lives on it, and the atmosphere surrounding it–in six days. Then on the seventh day God rested. Humans understand that a “typical” day includes twenty-four hours. However God, as we know Him from reading the Bible, is not limited by time. So no one can state with certainty that the time frame for creation was exactly six, twenty-four hour periods (as we understand a day to be).

God’s days could be millions of years to us or, they could be a blink of an eye. Those details–I leave up to God to share with us in His time. As a believer, I live by faith in a loving God who created a perfect atmosphere for Adam, Eve and all of mankind to flourish in.

Adam

Genesis 2:7 Then the LORD God formed a man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being.

Eve

Genesis 2:21-22 So the LORD God caused the man to fall into a deep sleep; and while he was sleeping, he took one of the man’s ribs and then closed up the place with flesh. Then the LORD God made a woman from the rib he had taken out of the man, and he brought her to the man.

Creation is God’s perfect plan. It provides light by which we may see. Water and land to grow vegetation and sustain animals and humans. The sun, moon and stars to mark time. But God’s most lovingly perfect plan for mankind is His son, Jesus.

When Jesus stepped down from His heavenly realm onto the earth He had helped to create, mankind received our savior. Thank you, Jesus, for this blessing to mankind.

Yes, Jesus was present at creation, “Let us make mankind in our image,…”, and Jesus holds all things together.

Colossians 1:15-17 The Son is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. For in him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through him and for him. He is before all things, and in him all things hold together.

Holy Spirit was also present at creation.

Job 33:4 The Spirit of God has made me; the breath of the Almighty gives me life.

Everything that God makes is “very good.”

After God created, He blessed all that He had made. We are all a small yet perfect part of God’s vastly perfect creation. So the next time you experience a blah day and doubt your worth to God, just remember, everything that God makes He deems as “very good.”

Blessings!
