Word and world alphabetically part company at the fourth letter. We Christians, however,  understand there is literally a world of difference between these two words. The Word is God’s personal message to us. It is good, purely instructing how to live a holy life. The world, however, reflects man’s rebellion to God.  It is not pure, as it contains both good and evil.

Evil is what desperately tries to cunningly trick us away from God’s Word.

Sometimes The Word’s simplest rules from God are hardest to obey.  We’ve all had a cashier return too much change, or we’ve noticed on a receipt an item in our bag was not charged.  Not our fault, but it’s easier to ignore the blunder than to go all the way back to the store and correct it. 

Accepting the error instead of correcting it is a description of stealing, though most don’t look at it that way. When mistakes like that happen, a truth may be broken against the business, but it’s not our responsibility to use  precious time to fix their clumsy mistake, right?

O, the Lord’s beautiful Word tells us quite the opposite.

The world would tell us not to worry. Companies charge too much for their products anyway. They can afford loosing a few dollars because they cushion their profit margins. But let us read what The Word has to say to us about how He wants us to act. 

 Luke 16:10 “Whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much, and whoever is dishonest with very little will also be dishonest with much.” 

The choice to be honest or dishonest, reveals a person’s true character.

And the choice for either circumstance is always ours to make. To be consistently honest and truthful is a very hard goal to achieve. So hard that only Jesus obtained it.  With society continually rushing at a fast pace, we often don’t take the time to think if our actions will please God. But that is exactly why, in our hectic world which we live, Christians need to make ourselves intuit to God.  We need to learn how to act in certain situations before the situation occurs, by continually studying The Word.

O, glory to the Lord’s beautiful Word.

And where will our intuition on how to act come from? The Bible.  Only in The Word, do we find the correct answers that strengthen character and bring us closer to God.  It is The Word, that instills in us an instinctive definition of right and wrong, for any situation.

Colossians 3:8-10 But now you must also rid yourselves of all such things as these: anger, rage, malice, slander, and filthy language from your lips. Do not lie to each other, since you have taken off your old self with its practices and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its Creator.

Everyday, the world tempts us not to be Christ like.

The world takes pleasure in pushing us to choose evil over good, lies over truth, to be selfish rather than giving. Remember these advertising slogans?:

• “Just do it.” – Nike
• “Because I’m worth it” – L’Oréal
• “Have it your way.” – Burger King
• “Between love and madness lies Obsession.” – Calvin Klein
• “Eye it. Try it. Buy it.” – Chevrolet
• “You deserve a break today” – McDonald’s

To have victory over the world’s temptations, use The Word as your shield. The Word is our constant defense against the world, which cunningly tries to trick us. Goods of the world are fleeting, lasting less than a lifetime.  The true victory for life is believing Jesus died on the cross as the final sacrifice for sin.

It is through God’s Word that we come to know Jesus as our savior.

1 Timothy 1:15 Here is a trustworthy saying that deserves full acceptance: Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners—of whom I am the worst.

Acts 4:12 Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved.”

1 John 4:14 And we have seen and testify that the Father has sent his Son to be the Savior of the world.

Put your trust in The Word, not the world.
