How wonderful to be known and loved by a big God!
Have you ever thought about how big our God really is? When we acknowledge the differences between our big God and those little gods, we begin to understand His true awesomeness.
Our big God sent His Son to offer us salvation from sin. We do not gain salvation by living a good life, though many folks believe that idea . No, we are saved only through faith in Jesus Christ and the blood that He shed for us on The Cross.
For believers, this is a blessing. We know no life is without sin, so this gift of salvation through Jesus is our hope. Only through the perfect sacrifice of Jesus on the Cross, are sins of the world, the little gods we too often follow, forgiven.
1 John 5:5 Who is it that overcomes the world? Only the one that believes Jesus is the Son of God.
Our big God loved us before we were born. He knew we would sin, so His made a plan to offer His only Son as payment in full for the lies, hate, deceit, infidelity, slander, greed, selfishness and other sinful little gods that continually infiltrate, attack and destroy our lives.
Our big God knows these sinful little gods are self-created within us. Too often we incorrectly worship them believing they offer us satisfaction. When actually, they incite us to maneuver and attack others, also, enabling us to stay close to home, attacking our own lives.
But through the mighty power of our big God and the wondrous essence of His being, we can confirm and accept that He will never yields to little gods .
John 1:1-5 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.
Throughout the Bible, our big God tells us that He created life. We also know that with the fall of man came sin; a constant darkness trying to occupy and shatter the life of mankind. So those sinful little gods of darkness do exist around us, however, God does not allow their darkness to overcome His big God brightness.
Often, because we see and feel this darkness around us, we do not understand the path our lives are taking. But know that God alone is in control. He will never abandon us. We can believe this because He has told us these things.
1 Corinthians 10:13 No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.
Believers simply need to call on our big God for help in all circumstances. Our Lord has told us in His Word that He is constantly by our side. God tells us He will:
- Strengthen us.
- Perish our enemies.
- And hold our hands while helping us through. (All positive things that little gods lack!)
Isaiah 41:10-13 So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. “All who rage against you will surely be ashamed and disgraced; those who oppose you will be as nothing and perish.
Though you search for your enemies, you will not find them. Those who wage war against you will be as nothing at all. For I am the LORD your God who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, Do not fear; I will help you.
If you continually live with lies, hate, deceit, infidelity, slander, greed, selfishness, or other sinful little gods, take note of how small they really are. They offer no strength to the weary or hope for your salvation.
In fact a goal of the little gods of darkness is to make us weak in correct decision making. Their mission is to turn us from our big God. They will never go away on their own. They will continue attacking, breaking down your love for self and love for others.
Those little gods are not here to hold your hand or offer you comfort. No, their mission is to steal, kill and destroy. Thankfully, you have a savior who loves you some much, He gave up His very life for you.
If you don’t already know Him, I encourage you to learn more about our big God by reading from the New Testament, the gospel of John. John is beautifully written and illustrates the love of God as personified in His Son, Jesus Christ.
