In this chaotic world, we so often follow the false gods of popularity and social acceptance. This pattern can make moral individual choices hard to reason out. This is why as you read and gain knowledge from each chapter of this book; you commit yourself to God. Ask Him to change your undesirable behavior of taking the Lord’s name in vain. He can and will work through you, to create a better you. One who accepts and follows His way. A humble attitude, which includes respect for God, begins a life of change from what is popular with society, to following the third commandment.
And proper attitude is fundamental, when we speak His name. Have you ever gotten down on your knees in the middle of a room, and prayed to God? It’s a different feeling praying on your knees, than it is laying comfortably snuggled in bed. On your knees in the middle of a room with nothing but God to lean into. Head bowed down, arms at your side, you are humbling yourself. You are admitting you are lower than God. You are acting subservient; ready to obey a higher power. And you are also displaying reverence; deep respect and honor for One with authority.
When you are in this position, praying your heart out to God, you realize how this is the attitude God always wants us to have, each time we speak His name. This action of our kneeling, actually lifts Him up. So as we walk throughout our day, relating and talking to others, remember God desires us to continually acknowledge the sovereignty of His name, as if we were still down on our knees.
Now you know the worth and depth of our Lord’s name. You know the truth you are upholding. Vomiting the name Jesus is refusing God’s plan. And we will not go unpunished for ignoring this commandment.
You shall not misuse the name of the Lord your God, for the Lord will not hold anyone guiltless who misuses his name. Exodus 20:7
Whether we are alone and flustered, whispering it under our breath. Or, out in a crowd shouting it in irresponsible anger—He already told us what will happen.
I encourage your church to use my new book for your next Bible study; to better understand proper attitude for God’s holy name.
