Put On A Happy Face

Put on a happy face.

The LORD makes firm the steps of the one who delights in him; Psalm 37:23

God delights in all who rejoice in His name. Psalm 37:23 is a wonderful Bible verse to grasp onto, when we face difficult times. Believers, this verse gives us reassurance that God is in control of our lives. He has us firmly by the hand, as we walk through wearisome situations.

I know as I navigate through my new diagnosis of MS, and watch others who deal with this complicated disease, I can’t help but wonder how my body will be affected as the years progress. I personally know one person with MS who relies on a wheelchair and crutches to get through the day, yet another who drives and works laboriously in his backyard. I also am close to a man who went blind for almost three years from MS, thankfully he regained most of his sight back, but in his words he walks – “like a drunken sailor.” Still, there is another friend battling MS for over fifteen years, who works daily in the medical profession helping others, and also runs marathons. This disease reacts so differently in each of us, and it’s the unknown that can be so very frightening.

Yes, I do have MS but I am not dealing with the unknown in my life. I live life with my known God, the One who does what He promises.

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. Matthew 11:28-29

I can offer my God all the burden of my worries, and He carries them for me. This gives me peace.  This truth of God taking care of us, is confirmed in the writings of the Apostle Paul.

And this same God who takes care of me will supply all your needs from his glorious riches, which have been given to us in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:19 (NLT)

Paul endured great hardship as he spread news of the gospel, yet he did not feel troubled because he knew God was in control. Paul was weary with travel, burdened with others trying to stop his ministry, yet each day he got up and did it all over again because God gave him rest for his soul.

If you want to put on a happy face, put your trust in the Lord.  Place the weariness of your troubles into the hands of our known God and allow this freedom to give you rest from your burdens.
