“Because we love the Lord, we should be spiritually sensitive to moments when the powerful and important truths of the gospel can be shared with others. Perhaps more importantly, however, we should seek at all times to purify ourselves and to lead such worthy lives that the Light of Christ emanates from us in all that we say and do. Or day-to-day lives should stand as immutable witness of our faith in Christ.” – M. Russell Ballard
The Son of God, born of a virgin woman, came to us as the light of the world. During His short three year ministry on earth Jesus demonstrated to mankind: He is the removal of darkness.
Jesus is not out to remove the kind of embracing darkness created by a beautiful midnight sky, but rather He lives to eliminate evil darkness that lives within man’s heart. Jesus wants to eliminate mankind’s heart.
Evil darkness, the type labeled with such words as contempt, rage, pride, hate, malice, jealousy, distain, scorn, spite… that darkness can be replaced. That’s why Jesus came on Christmas Day: To replace the darkness.
Jesus came to be the light of the world.
Jesus, His radiance, is meant to be shared as a gift with others. This gift removes evil darkness by replacing it with His light. Light of respect, light of joy, light of humility, love, benevolence, gratitude, affection, gracious, goodwill.
Jesus’ light removes all darkness, allowing for fellowship with Him and with those around us.
1 JOHN 1:5-7 This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you: God is light; in him there is no darkness at all. If we claim to have fellowship with him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live out the truth. But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.
The light that Jesus offers is not meant to be hidden. Just as Jesus shared His light with those who have ears to hear, believers are meant to, “radiate the light of Christ” to others. Radiate it to friends, family, and yes even strangers in order for the darkness of this world to decrease.
Keep the light of Christmas, that is Christ our savior, burning all year long. Share your light of Jesus with others.
