Fix Your Eyes On Jesus

“Somehow fixing your eyes on Jesus causes other things to dim in significance. Possessions, people, reputation, opinions, political rhetoric, world wars, death, disease, heartache–all of these and so much more grow strangely dim when we gaze on Him.”

Charles Swindoll, So You Want To Be Like Christ (2005)

Life is chaotic. It’s not unusual to be needed at two placed at once. Or needed to make an important decision because no one else will. An unexpected flat tire on the way to work, a leaky dishwasher right before bed, sickness without warning; calamity happens.

Situations such as these, added to a typically busy day, can cause tempers to flare, exhaustion, or helplessness. It wouldn’t be unusual for the unwelcome circumstance to even trigger a good cry.

Thankfully, there is Jesus.

With Jesus, He offers peace that calms the storm. He desires us to turn to Him for comfort in the chaos, giving us peace of mind. Worrying, being angry, does nothing to improve calamity. But, fixing our eyes on Jesus instead of blowing up over the problem, by turning anxiety over to Him, acknowledging His power over our own, we are released of the burden of despair.

HEBREWS 12:1-2 ...And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.

Let’s not forget Jesus knows what it’s like to suffer. In one day He was physically beaten, verbally scorned, whipped, punched, pierced and hung on the cross to die. Jesus knows suffering.

He left heaven and came to earth, experiencing all that life offers–the love and joy, and the hate and suffering–so that He would understand what humans go through. So that we could trust He understands suffering.

So that in our suffering, our bad day, we can fix our eyes on Jesus and in faith allow our suffering to fade.

“God, I know that I am a sinner. I know that I deserve the consequences of my sin. However, I am trusting in Jesus Christ as my Savior. I believe that His death and resurrection provided for my forgiveness. I trust in Jesus and Jesus alone as my personal Lord and Savior. Thank you Lord, for saving me and forgiving me! Amen.”
