Forgive As The Lord Forgave You

“To be a Christian means to forgive the inexcusable because God has forgiven the inexcusable in you.”

C.S. Lewis

As we begin a new year, it’s not unusual for many to proclaim a New Year’s Resolution. Often resolutions reference improving one’s health or stopping a bad habit.

Resolutions are good. They are worthy of the time and patience required to achieve the particular goal. But all too often we falter because we lack the commitment and schedule needed to continually follow through.

Perhaps another choice for a New Year’s Resolution could be a one-and-done decision. One that can free you of heartache. One that releases you of an unhappy tie to the past. A decision that, once it’s made – you forget it. Live life. Move on.

Let your New Year’s Resolution be about forgiveness. Forgive someone. Forgive them of something past, something that can’t be changed, something that drains your mind each day.

Forgive them.

Allow yourself to release that aching burden. It’s a one-time decision, then it’s done. It’s over. Get on with your New Year and enjoy it.

Jesus forgave the inexcusable. His forgave His murderers as He hung on the cross. And He daily forgives our sin. All of it.

COLOSSIANS 3:12-13 Therefore, as God's chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you.

Release yourself from grievance with another. Offer forgiveness.

“Forgive as the Lord forgave you.”

“God, I know that I am a sinner. I know that I deserve the consequences of my sin. However, I am trusting in Jesus Christ as my Savior. I believe that His death and resurrection provided for my forgiveness. I trust in Jesus and Jesus alone as my personal Lord and Savior. Thank you Lord, for saving me and forgiving me! Amen.”
