Do You Know JESUS LOVES YOU?

Do you know Jesus loves you?

You’ve probably heard the song,  Jesus Loves Me, as a child growing up. Most likely you sang it in Sunday School. There is a beautiful rendition of Whitney Houston singing it on GodTube.

Both of those versions inspire Christians young and old to feel love. But to really understand the depth of Jesus’ love, one has to dig deeper.  We must experience the words of the Bible.

In actuality, Jesus never directly made a verbal statement of “I love you.” Yes, He did talk about and explain love. Then He went further than words can express.  Jesus demonstrated His love for us. He walked the walk.

Here are five instances Jesus exhibited His love for humanity by fulfilling human needs.

1. Jesus healed.

Matthew 9:35 And Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every sickness and every disease among the people.

2. Jesus fed.

Matthew 14:15-20 As evening approached, the disciples came to him and said, “This is a remote place, and it’s already getting late. Send the crowds away, so they can go to the villages and buy themselves some food.”

Jesus replied, “They do not need to go away. You give them something to eat.”

“We have here only five loaves of bread and two fish,” they answered.

“Bring them here to me,” he said.

And he directed the people to sit down on the grass. Taking the five loaves and the two fish and looking up to heaven, he gave thanks and broke the loaves. Then he gave them to the disciples, and the disciples gave them to the people. They all ate and were satisfied, and the disciples picked up twelve basketfuls of broken pieces that were left over.

3. Jesus taught.

Mark 12:28-31 One of the teachers of the law came and heard them debating. Noticing that Jesus had given them a good answer, he asked him, “Of all the commandments, which is the most important?”

“The most important one,” answered Jesus, “is this: ‘Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’

The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no commandment greater than these.”

4. Jesus healed the demon possessed.

Mark 12:22-24 Then they brought him a demon-possessed man who was blind and mute, and Jesus healed him, so that he could both talk and see.

All the people were astonished and said, “Could this be the Son of David?”

But when the Pharisees heard this, they said, “It is only by Beelzebul, the prince of demons, that this fellow drives out demons.”

5. Jesus willingly was crucified.

Isaiah 53:3-5 He was despised and rejected by mankind, a man of suffering, and familiar with pain. Like one from whom people hide their faces he was despised, and we held him in low esteem. Surely he took up our pain and bore our suffering, yet we considered him punished by God, stricken by him, and afflicted.

But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed.

When Jesus healed, fed and taught us He was actually loving us by example.

He was divinely sharing His love, and at the same time teaching us how to love one another. Jesus was demonstrating how we are to interact with others. And when He healed the demon possessed, He was telling us we are to pray for those full of evil.

Prayer is a powerful force. On our own our love can never save a soul. But when we invite the power of Holy Spirit to overcome evil, heaven’s gate opens. Jesus demonstrates that in Mark 12:22-24.

Jesus’ paramount act of love for mankind is His personal sacrifice on the cross. This act, more than all His other acts of love, was necessary so that believers may spend eternity with Jesus in heaven.

Thank-you, Jesus, for being a living example of love.
